Final Blog Post

This being the final blog post I will first start off with saying how much I have learned in this course. From being better with time management to finding and utilizing available resources given through OSU. In the beginning when I first chose to take this class I wanted to take this class to become a better and more studious student, better with time management, and how to study. After being done with the course I have realized that you learn so much more.

I learned a lot about technology and online resources this semester in this class. More specifically, I learned a lot about how to find credible resources to be able to use in a research report. Module 6 helped me a lot with learning the new technology. The resources the OSU library give you and the amount of credible databases out there are astronomical. And for after college Google Scholar will be able to help me from there.

I have learned a lot about myself through this class. I was lazy 2 weeks and really messed up my chances with getting an A but that is what made me learn more about time management and how badly it can affect you if you get on the wrong side of it.  I learned a lot about studying and how to study and take notes. Note taking and studying is mostly about being good at time management and planning ahead. I always the guy to cram everything to a day before the exam and get C’s but now I know about being a better planner and now I can take my time studying and doing the right things I need to do to get good grades.

What I learned from this class I will take on with me through the rest of my college career and into my work life after school. The skills learned like time management and planning can help me not stress and cram with work later in life so that will help me have a better chance of keeping and succeeding in that job. The listening strategies will also help me later in life in my sales position. The better listener I am the better chance of me getting the sale and getting the money I want and need to have a good life. Another great thing I learned that will help me later in life is netiquette and how to present yourself in a business aspect through email and that type of communication.

The most meaningful experience I had in this class was all of the modules and the interactive assignments that helped me learn better. With being visual learner the graphs and diagrams really helped me learn a lot from this class. I love the way this class will help me through my college career and into my work life. I would definitely recommend it to friends who are having the same problems that I was having and hopefully it could help them as much as it helped me.

Module 6 Blog Post

Module 6 really helped me and I’m sure everyone else with the “art” of searching. A lot of good and helpful hints like where to search for scholarly articles and how to search for them. Anywhere from simply using the Advanced Search feature on Google to using Booleans like AND/OR to help minimize wording in searches. Other helpful hints included wording of searches and “keywords.” The where aspect on helping us with searching is the thing that amazed me. The amount of resources you get through Ohio State is tremendous. From a full list of databases to help look through articles to a system where you can find the exact book at the exact library on campus, and the availability of that book. My favorite of these databases that I have used for many years since I have been to OSU is Academic Search Complete through the EBSCO database. This database has never once failed me and has always brought me scholarly articles related to the subject that I was searching. But I think the one thing that this module has opened my eyes to that I have truly never seen or heard of was the Google Scholar website. This website is an easy free tool to use when I will be out of OSU and won’ t have the resources granted to me now. But until then I’ll stick to EBSCO.

4 Easy Study Tips That Work!

I don’t know about you, but for me I never really learned how to study so these easy study tips helped me out at least to start out. A couple of the tips that he gives are really helped me start on being a great studier including, timing yourself for an hour of actual studying. You set your timer on your phone for an hour and actually study without interruption and eating a balanced healthy snack and water while studying so you do not feel obligated to get up.

Now if you guys are like me I love to listen to music while studying, now thats not always a great idea. Instead of listening to rap or oldies like I normally do, turn on the classical and smooth jazz. This will help stimulate the brain and not put more information like lyrics in your head while you are cramming for a final.

These have really helped me out and really helped me study better and I hope it helps you guys too!!

First Tips to Students: Emailing Professors

Hello New Students,

When emailing professors for any reason, be sure to always do a couple things….

First, make sure you include a subject line and a signature at the end. Always make sure you spell check before sending and for no reason should you call your professors anything other than Dr. Mr./Mrs. ________(Last Name) unless the professor says otherwise. Using good nettiquette in all forms of communication with your professor is a must.

You’re Welcome,
