About Me

Hello! My name is Abi Dumm, I’m a second-year student majoring in Health Sciences on the pre-occupational therapy track with minors in American Sign Language and Disability Studies. Prior to becoming a student at Ohio State, I attended Westlake High School. There I was highly involved with Youth Challenge Sports, an organization that brings together teen volunteers and children with physical disabilities through sport and art programs. I’m a passionate advocate for the disabled and hope to have a career where I am working directly with this community.

At Ohio State I am involved in both the Eminence and Millennium Fellowships. I am currently a Teacher Assistant in the Freshman Eminence seminar, and organized welcome week for the incoming fellows.

On campus I’m involved in a variety of organizations. I am a part of Design for 90 as their Outreach Director. I work on their GoBabyGo project, which modifies toy cars into powered mobility vehicles for kids. I’m also a Board Member for Buck-I-SERV, where I coordinate service trips for Ohio State students with Special Olympics USA. I also am a volunteer within the Nisonger Center TOPS program and a general member of the Boo Radley Society.

One of my favorite organizations on campus is TEDxOhioStateUniversity. I am a member of their content committee, and I coach speakers on how to give TEDx talks. Last year I coached Morgan Podraza for her TEDx talk at our main event in Spring of 2022.

I am also involved within research within the psychosocial cognitive lab under Dr. Castellanos. I assist on research for the ABLE project. There, I work on behavioral coding to see the relationship between cochlear implantation and executive functioning in young children.

This past summer I worked at the Cleveland Sight Center as a Teacher Assistant in a preschool for children with visual impairments. There I collaborated with occupational, physical, and speech therapists and assisted them in therapeutic activities. I also work in the Ohio State Union as an assistant at the information desk.

In my free time I enjoy reading creative nonfiction and writing songs. I also love watercolor painting, exploring local restaurants and coffee shops, plants, calendars, tea parties, and sloths.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me, and I’d love to hear from you!
