Club Activities

OSU Drone Club has a wide range of pilots with varying interests.  We have pilots who race mini-quads, pilots just interested in DIY work, and pilots interested in professional photography/video.  Here you can see the highlights of some of the work OSU Drone Club has done with other groups and organizations.  If you are interested in working with OSU Drone Club in the future, please do not hesitate to reach us through our CONTACT page.  Please be aware that if you want us to record aerial video on-campus we must submit several pieces of paperwork that may take up to two weeks to be approved.  However, sometimes we are able to push paperwork through more quickly.

Buckeye Space Launch Initiative – 2Pac Launch

The Buckeye Space Launch Initiative is a group dedicated to student-led spaceflight.  They seek to launch high powered rockets to demonstrate what their groups is able to achieve.  Their most recent launch was 2Pac, a two stage rocket acting as a proof of concept for future builds.  OSU Drone Club was asked to send a team member out to record the launch and more specifically the separation of the second stage during the rocket launch.  OSU Drone Club member Austin Kieffer-Jones recorded footage with his DJI Phantom 4 Pro and successfully captured the stage separation.  A video of the launch can be seen below and more information about the Buckeye Space Launch Initiative can be seen at their website: https://u.osu.edu/rocket/.

College of Engineering 2017 Holiday Card

The College of Engineering at OSU sends out a yearly holiday card to donors and alumni.  This year they wanted to form snowflakes with members of the team and take aerial photographs of the group.  We met with their leads on the project and were able to organize and submit documentation for the flight of a DJI Mavic Pro to take the photos.  The photographs were performed without incident and were featured on the College of Engineering 2017 holiday card.  Below are a few of the photos taken of their team.
