Welcome to Drishti, The Vision 2014!
Drishti is a Community Outreach Exercise that seeks to bring together cultural activists, artists and scholars on the same platform. This year, at the Ohio State University, “Drishti, the Vision” is being spearheaded as a collaborative exercise between Indian Students’ Association (ISA), Multi-Cultural Center for Embodied Aesthetics, Inernational Outreach and Social Activism (MCCA) and Odissi at Ohio State (O2). Scheduled to take place at the Ohio Union on Aug. 15, 2014, the event, coincides with the eve of Indian Independence Day. It will feature performances by 50 dancers ranging from children to seasoned pros with decades of experience from Washington D.C., New York and Columbus. The finale for this year shall be senior Odissi dancer, Guru Jhelum Paranjape who is travelling all the way from India to attend Drishti and offer a ten day workshop on Indian classical movement.

SingarMani, Nalanda-NrityaNipuna, Odissi-Jyoti Kaustavi Sarkar, second year doctoral student at Ohio State University, is an Indian classical dancer, choreographer, dance-scholar and educator, performing and teaching well over the past decade. Nominated as an Indian National fellow by the President of India, she is a leading Odissi dance exponent. She works on meaning-making processes in dance studies as pertaining to South Asian dance. She is the Artistic Director of the organization at Ohio State University called Multicultural Center for Embodied Aesthetics, International Outreach and Social Activism and is the founder of Odissi at Ohio State, through which she teaches Odissi dance. Kaustavi regularly presents her scholarly work as well as her creative work in dance conferences, festivals and conducts master-classes/ lecture-demonstrations across universities in Europe and America.Actively involved in the diasporic Indian community, Kaustavi is dedicated to a life engaged in scholarship, performance, pedagogy, leadership and activism. She has an Master of Science in Economics with specialization in Finance and has worked in New York, Kolkata and Mumbai as a financial analyst for over eight years.
