  3. Tested the Reflectance Sensors and went over Exercise 2 together.
  4. Team members were faced with difficulties in executing the commands, including all motors and the brake, however, these issues were resolved by replacing individual motor commands with only one line of code and using the number 4.

Meeting Time: 2/01/2018 at 9:35 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Each member shared their unique features of creative AEVs with teammates.
  2. By using the AEV analysis program and coding Straight Track on Exercise 4, team members could export plots (A plot of Power vs. Time & Power vs. Distance).
  3. Concept screening and concept scoring matrices were made to compare all the four created concept sketches, and more importantly, screening and scoring methods were performed to determine the success criteria that fitted the AEV design, which would play an important role in the final design.

  2. Debriefed individual committee meetings and what was discussed in them
  3. Chose our desired research topic for lab 2 of the Advanced Research & Design labs.

Meeting Time: 02/22/2018 at 9:35 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Completed Advanced Research and Design Lab 2
  2. Assigned roles for website update 3
  3. Started preparation and created plan for oral presentation

Meeting Time: 03/01/2018 at 9:35 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Last minute preparations and rehearsals for oral presentation
  2. Started planning for progress report 2

Meeting Time: 03/08/2018 at 9:35 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Prepare for the Performance Tests
  2. Test the two designs
  3. Attach a servo motor to the first design and use the friction force to make a complete stop where the point we desire.
  4. Encounter the servo motor issue that is not function properly.

Meeting Time: 03/19/2018 at 9:10 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Servo Motor Testing
  2. The AEV Controller Board (Arduino) does not flash the green light, only the   red light flashing, and therefore, changed the board but it still does not work.
  3. Changed the battery and it also does not work.
  4. Switch the same code in different computer to check uploading code issue but it still does not work.

Meeting Time: 03/26/2018 at 9:10 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Before taking the actual performance test 2, the team highly concentrated on the problem-solving method; maintained AEV’s balance and how to orient the Arduino and arm correctly.
  2. For the brake to connect with caboose two inches away from Arduino, the solution that the team discovered was moving the Arduino board location from horizontal (parallel to the arm) to vertical direction (intersect between arm and the plastic board from a bird’s eye view).
  3. Tried to solve data inconsistency issues by keeping the reflectance sensor tape in the same position in every testing as well as changing codes from absolute position to relative position.
  4. The team used coasting instead of power breaking for the second part of the performance test 2 when the AEV connected with the caboose and remained in loading zone.

Meeting Time: 04/02/2018 at 9:10 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Practice for Final performance test
  2. Change the numbers in the code, particularly the marks. Edit the code from “go forward ()” to “Relative position (+/- 100)”. Decided to keep “-” sign in front of 100.

Meeting Time: 04/09/2018 at 9:10 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Before running Final performance test, the team briefly executed Performance test 1 to obtain the Energy efficient MATLAB graphs. The team used two preliminary codes to decide the best way to proceed with coding the AEV throughout performance testing.
  2. The team faced difficulties in the first part of the AEV code, particularly for adjusting the distance between the AEV and the gate (leaving a very small space between the gate and the AEV was an issue).

Meeting Time: 04/11/2018 at 9:10 am

Members Present: all

Topics Discussed:

  1. Practice for Final performance test
  2. The team spent time adjusting the distance between the gate and the AEV in the first part of the AEV code.
  3. Team members perceived the fact that changing codes and marks were necessary for the team to run the AEV successfully.
