What is Doga?

Doga (a linguistic blend of the words “dog” and “yoga” pronounced to rhyme with “yoga”) is the practice of yoga with dogs!

Yoga is recognized by the National Institute of Health as being one of the top 10 evidence-based complimentary health approaches to address serious health problems including depression, lower back pain, and hypertension. As a holistic mind-body practice, yoga combines physical activity with breath-focused mindfulness techniques.

Research also shows that interaction with a gentle, friendly pet (often referred to as “pet therapy”) can have significant health benefits, including the lowering of blood pressure, the release of endorphins (oxytocin), and increased socialization and sense of community.

So why not combine the two?!  Doga teacher Mahny Djahanguiri has acknowledged that while dogs “don’t actually do yoga”, she states:

Doga brings laughter and joy, freeing people from feeling they must be perfect to practice yoga.
