I went to France with my high school in the spring of 2017. It was amazing to immerse myself in the culture, and I gained a deeper appreciation of the french language. Going across the country also sparked a love for exploration and traveling, and I hope to explore more of the world in the future.

I went to the Ted Talk for CRISPR. It was very interesting to learn about the new technology and to see what it could potentially lead to in the future.

In my spring semester of my sophomore year I took an Art Education class and one of the criteria for a paper was to do something out of your comfort zone. I decided to go to the Wexner Center of the Arts and attend an exhibition by myself. I never typically like to go to to places alone, especially to somewhere I’ve never been before. It was uncomfortable at times, and part of me wanted to leave right when I got there. I felt really out of place, but I managed to just embrace that feeling and continue exploring the exhibition. This taught me how important it is to push myself and leave my comfort zone, since it leads to more opportunities and great things.

Year in Review

I’ve learned a lot about myself and my values in the past few months of coming to college. The first few weeks were quite rough. It was a new environment, new people, and it was the first time I had to completely take care of myself. The adjustment period lasted a few weeks, and although it was a struggle sometimes, it was definitely a big learning curve. Now, as the semester is coming to an end, I feel more comfortable, and have learned the many traditions and amazing opportunities, due to being a Buckeye. Coming to college as allowed me to strengthen my academic and social skills, and has taught me to be a more confident person.

My sophomore year has been the year I’ve felt I’ve had the most growth as a person and has made me reflect on my values and interests. At the start of the year, I still felt pretty lost with what direction I wanted to head towards for the future. Now, I have a pretty good understanding of what I want to do and would like to pursue PA school. Throughout the year I’ve matured more and evaluated my life values. I’ve gotten better at time management and prioritizing my goals and

A class that has made in impact on me these last two years has been Biology 1114. We got to learn about evolution, species, and how ecosystems work. This class made me interested in how organisms act and how we evolved. I enjoyed learning about the history of all the species, and would like to take more classes that also discuss the evolution of humans, and ways we evolved through medicine and technology.

About Me

Hello my name is Anna Dobies, and I’m majoring in Biology. I’m interested in health sciences, and would like to work with people or medicine in the future. I wanted to expand and strengthen my knowledge of the sciences, and learn more about cultures and diversity. I’ve been interested in science since I was little, and I hope to pursue a career where I can apply life sciences.

I was born in Dayton, Ohio, and have lived in Ohio my whole life. I moved to Columbus when I was around four. I grew up in a small town called Grandview, where there was about ninety students per graduating class. I strongly believe in giving back to others, whether that be through friendship, volunteering, or a simple act of kindness. Giving back makes the world a better place.

I hope to better the lives of people in the future through technology and medicine. Going into medicine or a branch career path is something I strive for, and is one of my main goals for my future.

G.O.A.L.S.

The Honors and Scholars G.O.A.L.S, represents values and expectations that every student should strive for.Global awareness is learning and engaging with different cultures and diversities. I best fit with the Global awareness. I’m continuing to pursue the french language, and might possibly minor in it. I hope to take anthropology classes, to learn more about the cultures throughout the world. I also want to study abroad for a semester to experience more of the world and what it has to offer.Original Inquiry is creating own ideas and expanding self-thought through research and other projects. Academic Enrichment is pushing yourself to take hard classes, and expand your knowledge. Leadership development is involving yourself in activities and leadership positions. Service Engagement is volunteering and helping others. I also relate to service engagement as I’ve volunteered throughout high school, and continue to in college through clubs such as Make a Wish and Smiles with Style.

Vision Statement and Statement of Action: I want to continue to pursue my biology degree and take classes that expand my knowledge of the life sciences. Also, volunteer more and hopefully get an internship or volunteer work in a medical area.

Career

I’ve worked at a flower shop and a smoothie shop during high school, and learned very valuable skills. Working with customers, and fellow co-workers, as vastly improved my communication skills, and time management. It also improved my work ethic after having to work many shifts for hours every week.
