A post-master’s doctoral student at The Ohio State University must complete a minimum of 80 graduate-level credit hours, 50 of which must be beyond their master’s degree. Students must complete 24 credits at Ohio State in order to graduate with a doctoral degree. To transfer coursework taken at another institution toward the 50 credit hours of DNE degree requirement, it must have been completed in excess of their master’s degree’s requirements and must be course work normally taken by doctoral students at the other institution. The student must complete and submit the Transfer a Course into the CON Grad Program form in Beacon, which will require the inclusion of syllabi of the original courses.
To learn more about transferring credit hours, please visit the Graduate School Handbook.
DNE students must transfer a block of 30 credit hours from their master’s degree to the DNE program through one of the following methods. It is recommended that this process be completed during the first semester of enrollment in the DNE program.
- DNE students that completed their master’s degree at another institution must petition the University’s Graduate School to apply their master’s credit to the DNE program by completing the Transfer of Graduate Credit form in GradForms by following this guide.
- DNE students that completed a non-nursing master’s degree at OSU must petition the University’s Graduate School to apply their master’s credit to the DNE program by completing the Committee and Examination Form in GradForms. In the form, select “Other” and explain the request.
- DNE students that completed a master’s degree in nursing at OSU will have their master’s degree credit automatically applied to the DNE program and, therefore, do not need to take further action.
