Clinical Tracking Requirement for Immersion Hours
(DNE 8781, 8538, 8998.01, 8998.02)
The DNE Program utilizes a program called ReVal for documentation of DNE student pre-immersion and immersion clinical experiences. The system is an internet-based integrated evaluation tool used to maintain a log of a student’s hours and progress toward meeting the NLN Core Competencies for Nurse Educators (Halstead, 2019) and the Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice (Harper & Maloney, 2022) through pre-immersion and immersion clinical experiences. This valuable tool will be used throughout the DNE program of study.
Note: You will receive access to the ReVal system a few weeks prior to DNE 8538 and use the same account for all the DNE Immersion courses. The password in the email will expire within seven days of receipt, please create an account as soon as possible. Instructions to access ReVal are in CARMEN, including a link to a student dashboard with an instructional video explaining how to use the software. The link to access ReVal is: https://reval.nursing.osu.edu. You will use your same OSU ID (name.#@osu.edu) and the same password to access ReVal as you do for university email and CARMEN. For ReVal technical support, please contact Corey Fuller at fuller.589@osu.edu. On the ReVal General Information website, there are tutorial videos, which are required to view.
The expectation is that DNE students will enter time logs, and not case logs into the ReVal database to document pre-immersion and immersion hours and experiences, including how these experiences are linked to the NLN Core Competencies for Nurse Educators (Halstead, 2019) and the Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice (Harper & Maloney, 2022). The ReVal site is HIPAA-compliant, and the data is protected. Students use ReVal to track time logs (shift time) and within that tracking can make notes to provide further information about the type of experience completed. Students are expected to indicate how these hours are linked to the national competencies (for ANE track) or standards (NPD track). For each time log (shift time), students are expected to categorize the hours based on the eight (8) NLN Core Competencies for Nurse Educators (Halstead, 2019) and the 18 Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice (Harper & Maloney, 2022).
Using ReVal, students and faculty can monitor progress toward completion of pre-immersion hours and immersion hours, as well as progress in meeting the national competencies or standards, referenced below. To pass this required component of the immersion courses, students must complete the ReVal database, documenting the completion of required hours and categorizing these hours in relationship to the DNE Essentials.
