About DLS

The Development of Living Skills (DLS) Program is a comprehensive educational intervention system designed for families at risk for child abuse and neglect. The program began in 1985 with a grant from the Children Services Levy and continues with grants from Butler County Children Services (BCCS)/ Butler County Job and Family Services (JFS). The program is conducted by the Ohio State University Extension, Butler County, an off-campus arm of The Ohio State University.

We are committed to working together to develop a stable family environment through basic education of life skills. Our society assumes that all families instinctively “know” how to care for children, cook nutritious meals, manage family finances and nurture a healthy family. Fortunately, families in crisis can learn how to change their environment and behavior for a healthier way of functioning.
