Community Commitment 2016

During my second week here at OSU I had the opportunity to participate in OSU’s largest community service event, Community Commitment. Myself and my scholars group were assigned to clean up trash in and around the Olentangy River. Waking up at 7:00am to clean up trash wasn’t the first thing we wanted to do, but after just a few minutes my perspective changed.

I have always been passionate about the environment and protecting it, so seeing the amount of trash in a local river was disturbing. I think when people litter they think it’s no big deal because it’s one little piece of trash, but when everyone thinks that way it adds up.

Seeing the area clean after a few hours of working there made me appreciate the world we live in even more. The Earth is a beautiful place and we should never forget how important it is to take care of it.
