What does this event entail?

Dining in the Dark & Dim is an immersive experience designed to raise awareness about accessibility and inclusion in hospitality for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Guests dine alongside members of the visually impaired community and have the option to put on a blindfold, fostering a deeper understanding of navigating the world without sight.

Students participating as ambassadors complete OCALI’s Promoting Access for People Who Are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, or Visually Impaired training before the event. This equips them with best practices for providing support and increases their awareness of the everyday experiences faced by blind and visually impaired individuals. This training is available to the general public.

Through shared conversations and sensory exploration, attendees gain a fresh perspective on accessible hospitality. The event highlights the power of empathy, featuring insights from visually impaired community members, trained student ambassadors, and industry leaders committed to creating inclusive spaces.
