Artifact 1- First Seven Weeks of College

Recently I have started to attend college and I just finished my first seven weeks of college. A lot has happened in those few weeks. In fact, it has been so busy that the weeks seem to just fly by. In those weeks I’ve left my home, made new friends, had my first two midterms (with more soon to come), and gotten a taste of what the next four years is going to be like. I left my home to pursue a higher level of education, which was uncomfortable at first leaving what was comfortable and what I was used to. But I’ve settled in here, meeting new people daily, making new friends and acquaintances and getting into the swing of things. I feel like it’s good to change things up every once and a while to keep things interesting and it also offers an opportunity to grow as a person. The academics of my classes have not been easy, especially my Calculus II 1172 course and my Physics 1250 course. I’ve taken the first midterm for both of those classes and to be honest I didn’t feel very comfortable afterwards. This means that I need to improve how I’m studying and also how much I am studying. So my first few weeks has definitely been stressful to say the least with a new environment, set of classes, and demanding workload. Nevertheless, things are constantly moving forward and me with it. These past few weeks have been a good experience to grow off of, and I can not wait to experience more of what college life has to offer me.

Below is a picture of my view from my dorm room.

About Me

I am a first year Scholar aiming to study Aerospace Engineering. I am interested in Aerospace because space is amazing and in the future I’d like to see more exploration launches and even commercial space flights. This lead me to STEM Scholars because there is where I could meet others with the same kind of mind set and maybe even the same kind of goals. In my senior year of high school I was a part of the newly founded robotics team, and we made it to state. I am looking for any kind experience in the form of internships although preferably in the aerospace field. Apart from my academic interests I am interested in cooking, video games and a good time.

Mid-Year in Review

This semester has been very different for me as I have become more driven to get things done. I have no one to make sure that I am studying, eating, sleeping, or in general taking care of myself. This have been one of my first ventures in being responsible for myself. Making more independent choices and with no one to really rely on but myself. But I’ve risen to this new challenge by making sure that I work out at least 3 times a week, doing laundry when necessary, eating everyday around the same time, and pushing myself to study. This has been a change for me as in the past I would not be motivated to do anything. In high school, I’d constantly push assignment back until the night it would be due. Now, I start to work on assignments weeks before they are due in order to give myself time to have free time or work on other projects. This new initiative has come out of necessity but is for the better as I am taking more interest in my personal health, time management and other parts of my life. Moving out to a new place where I did not know anyone has made me adapt to this new situation in a way that has made me more driven to not slack off or be lazy. Overall, I feel as this new change has been for the better and is something that I will carry on with me in to the future.
