Reflection
I am an 18 year old girl (she/her/hers) who was born and raised in Columbus, OH. I’m super outgoing, adventurous and personable! I have done a lot of crazy things and would love to tell stories of all my adventures to anyone. I am hoping to major in Visual Communications and love art in every form. I am excited to build my portfolio, and to show all the professor/other faculty what that I have a real passion and vision for design.
I got into design after taking two and a half years of a “marketing” class -innovations and entrepreneurship- while in high school. While competing in various sales competitions, I also had the opportunity to compete in a flyer making competition for the Franklin County Fair. I ended up winning the lamb show and my flyer was featured across the fair and in a magazine. I also was runner up for the pig show flyer competition, and ended up falling in love with the idea of design. I created all of the designs for my schools clubs and advertisements, including the school store and school news. That is how I knew visual communications is what I wanted to make a career out of.
After college I intend to hopefully find a career in VCD and move out to California or Colorado for a few years before returning to Columbus. A wild dream of mine is to join the cheer leading/performance squad of a NFL team out there. A requirement of the team is also balancing a full time job, giving me initiative and time to keep a design job in the busy cities. It may seem as if I have my life planned out but people and plans change, especially over the course of 4 years! Hopefully I am still on track for a Visual Communications degree and can keep you updated.

Design
To me, design is a way to get a “product” from a starting point, to a desired point. Design is a way to express the creators vision/personality, while also satisfying the audiences needs.
Exploration of Design
In the design fundamentals courses, I hope to mainly just gain the experience of being, not just a designer, but a good one. The way you can make something stand out by using contrast, or the way you can organize your ideas with proximity, really interests me and I am excited to be able to create my visions and finally be able to display them in an understandable way. I am also curious about learning new tools to make the design easier process and becoming more tech savvy.
