Spacial Assembly Project 2

To be honest, the was not my favorite project. Actually, it got even worse when I accidentally exited out of this page after I was already done writing this post so here I am redoing it. But that’s okay. ALWAYS save before you click something. All the projects are learning lessons, right? What I learned from this project would be shading, spacial structure, and overall how to be a better artist. But, I am also already a perfectionist, so that did not go well with this project. I drew the grid 5 times before I finally decided one was goo enough to use. I thought some [arts about this whole process were hard, such as putting objects on the back wall and drawing a stool. My stool looks really wonky and will probably be pointed out by Emily tomorrow, but thats okay because I am pretty proud of my work. I am especially proud of my shading, considering I learned how to shade about a week ago in class. This whole process has been a great learning experience but I am so glad it’s over. I am thankful for it’s lessons but I am very very very excited to move on and excel at the next.

2D Principles and Squares final

Process:

This whole process was my favorite out of all my design lab projects so far. I had fun designing all my squares and coming up with all of my final designs. I find vectr super easy to use (other than putting in masks) and I find it fun to try and handle.

The best part about my whole process was the fact that what I thought my favorite squares were in the beginning ended up being my least favorite and vice versa. I thought that all of my designs for order were clever and I hated coming up with ideas for tension. I ended up LOVING my tension submission and thinking that order was my most boring. I also didn’t really like my playful one throughout the whole process but I loved designing bold and loved my final submission.

I found this project very interesting and hope to do similar  things in the future of this class!

Journey To Treasure Final Project

I really enjoyed this project and doing all of the sketches that I was supposed to do. I am very proud of myself for the effort and change I made in my drawings. I did a lot better than I thought I would and I’m really trying with everything that I’ve been doing. I am very proud of the progress I’ve been making.

The hardest sketch I had to do was the library one. That is why I shaped that one out but never finished it. Also the drawing of Derby Hall was kind of complicated.  But I am glad I put in the effort, and it ended up being my favorite drawing.

Treasure Hunt Progress Check

Finding Hayley’s Treasure

I had a lot of fun on this project. My favorite part was wondering what object I should do, and the satisfaction that I got when I thought of the perfect place. The place I chose was a window on the 11th floor of Thompson Library, which is the highest public vantage point on tOSU campus. It worked out perfectly because Hayley’s treasure was on the 2nd floor of Thompson Library. Her steps were a little more detailed than mine, which made me wish I had taken the first step of the project more seriously, but we live and we learn. Her steps were fun and pretty easy to follow, other than the very beginning. The step was to go out the rightmost doors of Hayes Hall and I was having trouble finding those doors. I ended up realizing she meant the right side of the main door by reading step two to figure out where I should come out. I liked the way she included weather troubles and looking at the pedestrians. She also had one step where yoy had to keep your head turned to the right at 90° because that was the only way you would come to the object and stop. I thought that step was fun and creative. Overall I think that Hayley did a really good job on the project and I would give her steps to other people to follow, because they were easy to follow and I had a good experience on this hunt!

Project 2 Research

Research

Order

The arrangement of things in relation to each other according to a particular pattern or sequence.

  • Use pattern to show the order and make it more clean
  • Use balance to show organization
  • Create line with the squares because that creates a sense of order

Increase

To slowly make greater in it’s size or intensity.

  • Scale is the most important element. Can help you literally increase the size
  • Rhythm and movement can help give off the illusion that the squares are literally increasing during the “picture”
  • Space can help create the feeling of the squares getting bigger when the negative space is used in the right way

Bold

Coming off in a very strong way, and having a vivid appearance.

  • Contrast will help create the strong appearance
  • Emphasis helps draw attention to the main square, giving off a mare vivid illusion
  • Value will help in this one, because making the main point of focus black will help achieve the bold look.

Playful

Expressing pleasure and amusement and giving the viewer a fun experience.

  • Shape can help if you make the squares into an organic form. This gives off a more relaxed and amused appearance
  • Making the squares unbalanced will help give off a fun and playful vibe, and stimulate a good experience for the viewer

Congested

Limited movement due to traffic and crowd.

  • Rhythm and movement can make everything in the square look hectic and give it a congested look
  • Using balance to make the picture look unbalanced and too full will give the whole square a congested appearance

Tension

Being stretched to a tight or uncomfortable point.

  • Using lines to make them as thin and “tight” as possible gives off this uncomfortable feel
  • Using contrast to create these lines is an important aspect to the whole “picture”

Process Post

The overall project was actually pretty easy. Since they were only rough drafts I had a fairly simple time figuring out what to do for all 12 on each. There were some that I decided didn’t work right away, or just looked to bad/unorganized. There were some that I really like and might consider for my final six, after going through the peer review first of course. There were even some that I put for one and decided it would be better used for another. I am enjoying the whole project and think I did a pretty well job, see the attached images below to see.

Project 2 Exercise 1

I enjoyed this project! I had fun making all the squares and I am also excited to take the next step and make all 72 squares. I am also nervous about only being able to use four squares but we’ll see how it goes. I’m excited to bring out my inner designer and see how creative I can be with this project. You’ll see in my next post!
