G.O.A.L.S.

The focus of Honors & Scholars on G.O.A.L.S encompass what a student should achieve when pursuing a higher education. Each category allows a student to expand on their talents or try something that allows them to grow. With my pursuit of higher education, the objective of G.O.A.L.S will be helpful for me to grow and expand as an individual, and help me in my path to become a doctor.

To pursue the Global Awareness part of G.O.A.L.S, I plan on taking courses that expand my knowledge on history of other countries, like Classics courses. If I can, I want to study abroad or do research or an internship in another country. I am from Nepal, and I loved learning about the melting pot culture in America, so going to another country and immersing myself in that country’s culture will an amazing experience. This experience will allow me to understand the history and background of my patients better when I am practicing as a doctor.

For the Original Inquiry aspect of G.O.A.L.S, I plan on pursuing research. I am very curious person, so to be able to search for an answer by myself would be great. I want to do research related to the biochemical processes of the Central Nervous System, or cancer research, or a research related to stem cells. Through original inquiry, I will be able to contribute to the vast arena of biomedical science.

Again, I am a very curious person, so I really like learning new things. I am going to pursue Academic Enrichment part of G.O.A.L.S by taking honors classes and pursing a minor in History of Art. I also plan on joining the Biochemistry club. Medical school also has a rigorous curriculum, so by challenging myself, I am preparing myself for medical school.

I am going to fulfill the Leadership Development part of G.O.A.L.S by actively participating in clubs. My friends and I had an idea about a club that was related to reading stories to the patients in a hospital or clinic, and I could also fulfill this part by possibly forming this club. I could also become a peer leader and guide or help fellow students pursue what they want to. Being a doctor means I have to work in teams, and sometimes lead a team, this aspect will allow me to develop my leadership skills for the future.

For the Service Engagement aspect of G.O.A.L.S, I plan on volunteering in a Free Clinic, or Wexner medical center, or a similar institution. I plan on giving back to the community by participating in “Community Commitment”, and “Science Day.” This will allow me to integrate myself in the community and help it in the process. Since, helping people is the most integral part of becoming a doctor, serving the community is a step closer to my dream and my goal.
