Adding Images or Videos Directions

Images and videos have required settings for your Portfolio Projects. Follow these steps to add with required settings.

Adding Images

First, upload the images you plan to use for your project following using Add Media button. You can also watch this process in the Portfolio Project Content Requirements video.
Note:
if your final work is in PDF format, you will need to export or convert it to PNG or JPG for the Project page.

To insert images with our required Portfolio Project settings:

  1. Click the Add Media button
  2. Select the image you wish to place in your project
  3. From the menu at the right of the media selector (you may need to scroll to see all the options) set:
    • Caption: short description of the image
    • Alignment: None
    • Link to: Media File
    • Size: Large (Use “Full Size” if Large is not an option); For Process Posts you may find “Medium” to be more useful – just ensure your content is readable and understandable.

Note: if your starting media image size is under a certain threshold, “Large” will not be an option. This is unlikely if you are uploading photographs or screenshots. If “Large” isn’t available, select “Full Size.”

Examples of an image set to Large vs Full Size:

IMPORTANT- Images cannot be placed side-by-side. u.osu uses a responsive interface that adjusts layout based on screen size. If you always want to images to sit side-by-side, you should take them into a photo editor and collage them together, then follow up the upload and posting instructions above.

Adding Videos

These steps are relevant for final projects that are in video form or you may have some video work that belongs in your Process Posts.

  1. Upload the video to a hosting site (Mediasite is recommended and supported by OSU, but YouTube will also work).
Note: Consider what privacy settings you are comfortable with when uploading to external websites like YouTube.
Mediasite: you can specify an upload to be available to everyone (in this case, “everyone” is only people with the link) or to only be available within your organization (OSU). My experience is this option isn’t the best because it requires logging into mediasite and doesn’t work well with embedded video. View Mediasite help and information.
YouTube: you can make a video “unlisted” so only those with the link can view it. This works with embedding on your u.osu site.
  2. Follow these steps to embed the video in your post.
