Career

My life plan while at Ohio State is to graduate in four years with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then begin working as a registered pediatric nurse after passing the NCLEX. Because of the Vision for Life assignment, I have a much clearer understanding of the job details of a pediatric nurse. In addition, I learned what activities I should join in order to be a competitive applicant in the job pool. For example, to be successful as a pediatric nurse, it is advised to take classes on early childhood development and volunteer or work at a child-centered environment. I also researched dietetics as a secondary path of study and learned that this would be a very suitable Plan B. Because I had to research various careers and their according majors, I feel very comfortable using campus and internet resources to determine my career choices. I found it most efficient to us the internet to quickly learn about a major.

My plan to maintain my health and wellness while balancing my time with academic, extracurricular, and social commitments is to eat a balanced, nutritious diet, get at least seven hours of sleep a night, and remain active almost every day. Throughout my first semester of college I have been able to stick to these goals for the most part. Sometimes it is hard to get seven hours of sleep but I make sure I do not continually sleep less than that.

I found it very helpful to use upperclassmen as excellent resources whenever I have questions about Ohio State or my career options. There are many current nursing students that are willing to help me and answer all my questions about the nursing program at Ohio State. In addition, the faculty members and university staff members are also excellent resources that I can use to answer my questions about Ohio State, specifically the BSN program. I find it easiest to go to a professor’s office hours when I have a question for them.

I would like to continue to grow holistically during my years at Ohio State. One way I hope to grow is through taking upon leadership roles. I have joined the Wishmakers on Campus and College Mentors for Kids, and I hope to become more involved with them. Additionally, I would like to serve my community more. I would like to volunteer at a local hospital because I hope to work in a hospital as pediatric nurse.

This is Newtown Hall which is home to the College of Nursing where I hope to pursue a BSN.
