Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: To me, global awareness means to be able to diverse yourself into a variety of different cultures, either through extracurriculars, courses, or even studying abroad. I find it very exciting to learn about and experience how people different from me live and communicate in the world. I would love to study abroad to a country I’ve never been before, and immerse myself into their lifestyle, either the summer after sophomore year, or the summer after junior year. If this opportunity is unavailable to me, I still plan on taking multiple classes that expose me to different groups not only across the US but also the world.

Original Inquiry: Throughout my undergraduate career, I plan on pursuing any research opportunities that become available to me. I believe that research not only helps to decide whether my career path is the right one, but it will also prepare me for my future profession if I do decide that I am on the right path.

Academic Enrichment: My philosophy on course load is to challenge yourself up to the point where it hurts your performance, and that is exactly how I approached my first semester. I am taking two honors courses in psychology and in chemistry, but I am retaking calculus 2, since I didn’t think I was ready for calculus 3. I plan on taking this approach for the rest of my time at Ohio State. I am aspiring to go to medical school, and I know the challenges it takes to get there, so if I am prepared for challenges right now, I will be prepared for the challenge of medical school.

Leadership Development: I plan on applying for leaderships for the extracurriculars I am in. I became an Eagle Scout in high school, so I know I at least have fundamental leadership skills. However, I also know that these skills can be built on, and need to continuously be put in use. Leadership is an important quality in the medical profession, and by building upon it right now, I can be fully prepared for my dream profession.

Service Engagement: Helping others in need is very important to me, as I want to share some of the privileges that I have with others. I used to volunteer at soup kitchens or at the hospital a lot over the summer, and I want to continue to do so here. I am open to new opportunities, as I know there are multiple different ways I can serve the community.
