What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
CBT is an evidence-based, time-limited treatment for depression. CBT is grounded in a cognitive behavioral model of depression. According to this model, the way that we think and act influences how we feel. In CBT, you will work with your therapist to develop your skills at identifying and re-evaluating negative thoughts and beliefs, as well as work to more successfully pursue your goals.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes long and offered via teletherapy. During each session, you will meet with your therapist individually to discuss therapy-relevant content, examine your thoughts, and plan opportunities to practice coping skills outside of session. A typical course of CBT in our clinic is 12 weeks, starting with twice-weekly sessions and moving to once weekly sessions as treatment progresses.
