CoD Scholarships

The College of Dentistry is proudly accepting application for the below 2014-2015 scholarship opportunities.  Descriptions of the awards and instructions for applying are below.


Students are allowed to apply for more than one scholarship; however, a separate application is required for each award.  To apply, please complete the below form and have any letters of recommendation (if required for the award for which you are applying) submitted directly to Jami Jackson either as a hard copy or electronic version by the person who wrote the letter.

Commitment to Care
This scholarship recognizes a strong personal commitment to serving the underserved as a dental student and a likelihood to continue such service beyond dental school. Students may demonstrate this commitment through extracurricular volunteer activities that go beyond their required experiences. Examples of this commitment might include, but are not limited to, participating in volunteer trips to local clinics that serve the underserved on a regular basis, participating in a college-sponsored trip abroad to provide care for individuals and/or populations with limited access to dental care, or participating in volunteer activities like GKAS. Awards will be determined by the scholarship committee.
Model Professional
This scholarship recognizes demonstrated excellent professional behavior in areas of patient care and customer service. Model professional behavior includes preparing for patient appointments in an organized manner, putting patient needs first, striving to provide top-quality care and follow-through on all aspects of care throughout appointment. Other behaviors could include, but are not limited to, helping others in clinic when appropriate, being productive and present in clinic, and demonstrating excellent “chair-side” manner. The student awardees should be students who model professionalism with not only their patients but all clinic staff and faculty with whom they interact. These nominees will be reviewed for additional input by their clinic directors. Awards would be determined by the scholarship committee.
Research Excellence
This scholarship recognizes demonstrated excellence in the area of research through 1) student presentations at relevant regional/national/international meetings 2) student awards for research presentation or research proposal or 3) publication of an article based on the student research experience, particularly those in which the students share in the authorship or 4) participation in research at a nationally recognizes competitive program. Awards will be determined by the scholarship committee.
Ambassador Award
This scholarship recognizes excellence in outreach and leadership and a student who consistently represents the school in a positive and professional manner. The awardees will be students whose efforts or activities reflect positively on the college. Examples of these activities could include, but are not limited to, participation in or planning of advocacy activities, education about oral health care to underserved communities, and leadership in school or professional organizations. Awards will be determined by the scholarship committee.
