With this e-Portfolio, I plan to document my experiences through college. I hope that what I accomplish can influence another Scholar to truly experience everything that Ohio State has to offer.
Year in Review
At the beginning of the year, my main priority was to get an internship for the summer. I went about this task by perfecting my resume with engineering career services. I also attended my first career fair in the fall and a second one in the winter. Although the fairs did not help my obtain an internship, they did help better my communication skills. Talking to employers face to face, although only for a little bit, really helped me get more comfortable talking about myself in a professional manner. Along with the fairs, I also applied to a lot of internships online. I looked at internships all across the country, hoping someone would see value in me. I was luck to enough to get interviews from four of the companies that I applies to. For the entirety of the month of February and most of March, I had three interviews a week. All the hard work paid off when I got an offer from Flashstarts, a company in Cleveland. Even though it was the internship I wanted most, it is still an internship, and I am very excited for the summer.
Being thrown into a multitude of interviews has helped me a great amount. I used to get unbelievably nervous before an interview. I would get butterflies in my stomach and could not focus on anything else. Now that I have done phone interview, Skype interviews, and in person interviews, I no longer get nervous. Going forward, I know that I will feel comfortable whenever I need to interview again.
Aside from an internship, I was also lucky to get a job in the second semester at The Ohio State Athletics ticket office. Having this job has made me a more efficient worker, forcing me to better manage my time. It has also allowed me to be more comfortable talking to people. Answering the phones all day has helped deal with all sorts of people. Some people are very agitated, and I have leaned how to deal with such people, staying calm, and helping them with whatever need that they have. This new job has also given me the good fortune of meeting some wonderful students that I may have never met.
This year I organized a calculus workshop for any STEM scholars taking calculus. Hosting these workshops has given me the chance to meet many of the first years. It has also allowed me to get a new perspective on how other students learn. Walking students through various problems has helped me become a better communicator as well as see how some student learn differently than others. I have very much enjoyed being able to help students navigate such a difficult course.
My sophomore year at The Ohio State University has proven to be a good one. My main take away from this year has been the communication skills that I have gained. I feel that I am able to speak to people in any environment in a smoother fashion than before this year. Using these skills in the future, I will be able to more easily secure a second internship or perhaps a full time job. The skill I have learned thus far are priceless, and I am excited to use them in the second half of my college career and beyond.
G.O.A.L.S.
The two GOALS that interest me the most are Academic Enrichment and Leadership Development. I believe that these are the most important because I knowledge and leadership are two crucial things that one must have to get a job. In order to be promoted in a job, a person must know what they are doing as well as lead others. Without these two characteristics, a person is limited in what they can do with their life.
Academic enrichment is very important at this point in my life. I came to college to gain new knowledge and learn about computer science. The main reason for going to college is the academics. Academic enrichment is an important part of my life now, and it will continue to be an important part of my life in the future. There is always more to learn. Different jobs will require me to know different concepts, and I will have to learn those new concepts. As I grow older, I will constantly be learning new things and gaining more knowledge.
Since I was a child, I have been told how important leadership is. Without proper leadership, nothing would get done. Leaders are the people who organize events and motivate others to get things done. Because I am a freshman,my leadership roles are not very prominent, but as I continue to grow and gain new experiences, I will be able to lead others to success. In 10 years, I want to be leading people at a company or perhaps my own company. Being a good leader is an important attribute, and I hope I gain those crucial leadership skills.

During my first few weeks at Ohio State, I have gotten involved in the tennis club. Although I am only on the practice team, it is still an enjoyable and beneficial experience. At first I was a little worried that I would not be at the skill level of the other players, however, this club has turned out to be a great experience for me. Because of the tennis club, I have not only met fellow engineers, but I have also met people from a multitude of other majors. Because I spend the majority of my time on North Campus, I would not have been able to meet such a diverse group.
This club has also allowed to connect with some upperclassmen. Being in classes that persist of mostly first years, it is nice to be able to talk to some students that have more experience. Talking to the upperclassmen allows me to learn tips around campus and what to expect in the year ahead. I have not only been able to improve in the sport of tennis, but I have also improved on my knowledge of the campus and communication.
Participating in the tennis team also forces me to take a break from working and relax for a little a while. The walk to and from the RPAC relax my nerves and gets my mind off of all the things that have to be done. Being on the courts allows me relieve a lot of stress, therefore, allowing me to be more productive when I return. The tennis club has been, and hopefully continues to be, a great experience.
Being a CSE major, I thought that Hack Ohio would be a great learning experience. It was exciting to see so many people that were as passionate about computer science as me. The event allowed me to meet new people and learn new things. There were a lot of speakers from large companies, and they gave me an idea of what careers wait for me outside of university. This experience was both fun and beneficial. The free meals was also a plus for this extravagant event.
Because I do not have a lot of coding experience, I was not able to participate in the actual competition. However, I was able to learn a lot of new skills. During the event, I was able to download a software that will allow me to program an android application. With this software downloaded, I will be able to create an app when I ever I want. While Hack Ohio only lasts for 24 hours, the benefits of it will last a lot longer.
About Me
I am a second year student at The Ohio State University, and I am majoring in computer science and engineering. Currently, I am part of the STEM Exploration and Engagement scholars. I am running a calculus workshop for my capstone project for STEM scholars. This workshop takes place on Thursdays, and I help students solve any calculus problems that they are struggling with. I have also gotten a job at the Ohio State Ticket office. This job has been very beneficial in bettering my communication skills as well as my time management skills. When I am not busy with school, work, or projects, I enjoy working on a tower defense game that I am making in Unity. For the summer, I have been fortunate enough to get an internship with Flashstarts, a company that helps start up company. I am excited to make the move to Cleveland and to finally get some real world experience.
