The Sound and the Fury

After reading the excerpt “Dilsey” by William Faulkner, readers have the opportunity to decide if Dilsey was judging any aspect of herself or the environment. There is no dialogue, so it difficult to distinguish if she is being judgmental. Readers have to decide based on actions and body language that is described by the omniscient narrator. The story follows Dilsey as she steps outside, looks up at the weather, looks down at her dress, and decides to not go outside due to the rain. After she looks to the dark sky, she “turned and entered the house again and closed the door”. We think this quote and set of actions show judgement.  After looking at her dress than the weather, she judges that the day is dreary and that she prefers to stay inside.
