Record and Export a PowerPoint Presentation
Recording Lectures in PowerPoint:
Recording and exporting your PowerPoint presentation allows you to create a video lecture that can be shared in Carmen Canvas with students. Follow these steps to successfully record and export your presentation:
1. Prepare Your Presentation
- Open PowerPoint: Launch Microsoft PowerPoint and open the presentation you want to record.
- Review Content: Ensure all slides are complete and formatted correctly. Check for any typos or errors.
2. Set Up for Recording
- Microphone and Camera: Make sure your microphone is connected and functioning. If you plan to include video, ensure your webcam is set up.
- Quiet Environment: Choose a quiet space to minimize background noise during recording. Click here for more information on the recommended recording environment.
3. Start Recording
- Go to the Slide Show Tab: Click on the “Slide Show” tab in the PowerPoint ribbon.
- Select “Record Slide Show”: Choose either “Start Recording from Beginning” or “Start Recording from Current Slide.”
- Recording Options: In Microsoft 365 version of PowerPoint, “Teleprompter View” is selected by default. To switch to classic presenter view, click the last icon on the top right and select “Presenter View”. You can choose to include your video and audio (select your source from the respective dropdown menus).
- Record: When ready, click the big red circle button at the top center to record.
4. Present Your Slides
- Navigate Through Slides: Use the arrow keys or mouse to advance through your slides as you present.
- Speak Clearly: Deliver your presentation as if you were in front of an audience. Speak clearly and at a steady pace.
- Use Annotations (Optional): If desired, use the pen or highlighter tools to annotate your slides during the recording.
5. Stop Recording
- End the Recording: When you finish your presentation, exit the slideshow by clicking or advancing with the foward arrow key. Additionally, you can stop the recording by clicking on the red square at the top center.
- Review Your Recording: You can replay your presentation by going into presentation mode to check the audio and video quality.
Sharing Recorded Lectures from PowerPoint:
1. Export Your Recorded Presentation
- Go to File Menu: Click on “File” in the top left corner of PowerPoint.
- Select “Export”: Choose “Export” from the menu options.
- Create a Video: Click on “File Format” dropdown menu. The video file format should be MP4.
- Choose Video Settings: Select the desired video quality (e.g., Full HD, HD) and whether to use recorded timings and narrations.
- Choose a Save Location: Select where you want to save the video file on your computer. Note that you may choose your OneDrive location. See instructions for installing OneDrive to be viewable in your Finder/My Files on your computer.
- Click “Export”: After adjusting your settings, click the “Export” button. The video will begin exporting. This may take some time depending on the length of your presentation.
2. Review Your Video
- Play the Video: Once the export is complete, navigate to the saved location and play the video to ensure everything recorded correctly.
