Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

As an involved Ohio State student, I have touched on all areas of the Honors and Scholars G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I have taken opportunity to meet others with different backgrounds, talents, and interests, trying to take advantage of the diversity that surrounds me(one of the reasons I chose Ohio State). I’m also working on finding a minor that differs from my major, so I get a broad education, but also fits in my schedule so I can graduate in four years.

Original Inquiry: I am extremely excited to begin research second semester with Dr. Taylor, a professor in the Medical Dietetics program. Not only am I ready to learn more about nutrition and the project we will be working on, but am extremely privileged to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Taylor and be involved with research my first year at Ohio State.

Academic Enrichment: So far, my goal has simply been to maintain good grades, develop relationships with my professors, and most importantly understand the material covered in class. I plan to continue these achievements but in addition to searching for courses in areas that are out of my comfort zone and to use resources offered by the university to engage in learning outside the classroom.

Leadership Development: As a member of Mount Leadership Society Scholars, I have already developed my leadership skill. As I become more adjusted to life in college, I hope to challenge myself and take on more leadership roles through Mount Scholars but also in other various clubs I am apart of, and hopefully by the end of my career at Ohio State I will have high leadership positions.

Service Engagement: As a Mount Scholar we have had many opportunities to give back to the community and will have many more too. Some of the opportunities I’ve taken advantage of include, Tutle Park clean up, Adopt A Street, and Empty Bowls. Each different ways of giving back to the Columbus community. Our biggest project so far will happen in Feburary, but we are already preparing of it now! Legacy Week, is when each team(six teams total) carry out large scale projects for the Columbus community. I am on team Poverty and can’t wait to see how we make a difference in others’ lives.

As I continue to grow at Ohio State I can’t wait to see all the fantastic opportunities come my way.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

All throughout my high school career I took an art class each year. For most people art is an enjoyable, stress free class, but for a person like me, who has no artistic ability I found it quite frustrating. But, as studies show it is important to work the “other side” of your brain, so I found it important to take art(and sometimes I enjoyed it). Although art class made me feel stressed and overwhelmed there were times I found it relaxing. My favorite part about art class was the feeling I got after I completed a project I put a lot of time and effort in to. There is nothing like standing back and taking a moment to look at you finished work of art. This photo of my flower painting serves as a artifact because every time I see it hanging in my dorm room I am reminded of how hard work and determination really do pay off. Not only is it my favorite piece I created, but it is also the one I spent the most time on, which again proves that you can accomplish anything you put your mind too.

About Me

This will be my first year at Ohio State and I’m beyond excited to embark on this new adventure, however, I’m extremely nervous. I graduated from a small school so coming to a school as large as Ohio State will be an adjustment. School has never come easy to me, I am a student who has to study more than most students, but because of that I’ve developed a great work ethic and  study skills. I take pride in getting good grades and I plan to continue that pattern at Ohio State these next four years. My goal is to become a Dietitian, therefore, I am working towards getting accepted into the Medical Dietetics Program. I love working with kids and helping people so my dream job would be working in a children’s hospital. Because of my love for helping others I enjoyed working with a 13 year old girl, confined to a wheel-chair because she has spina-bifida. Helping this young girl with social situations and school work changed my life. I hope to find a similar volunteer experience this year, which is why I excited to be part of the Mount Leadership Scholars Group. Outside of the classroom I am very active. I ran cross country and track in high school so I love long distance running , eating healthy, volunteering, and although most people would describe me as an introvert, I enjoy meeting new people. I can’t wait to see what Ohio State has to offer!
