Year in Review

Global Awareness

I believe that Global Awareness is an important element contributing to personal growth and success in many aspects of life.  Being able to understand, respect, and appreciate the diversity among colleagues, clients, superiors, acquaintances, and even strangers will contribute to the forming of relationships both in and outside of the workplace.  In order to work towards my Global Awareness goal, I will strive to minor in French. Since high school, I have been interested in the French culture and language. I’ve traveled to Europe several times because of my Dutch ancestry, and have developed an admiration for the culture of France, specifically. Taking courses in college that reflect an apprehension of cultural differences will help me achieve my goal of Global Awareness.

Original Inquiry

Original Inquiry is a significant aspect of an Honors and Scholars student’s undergraduate career.  This goal involves the participation in any activity pertaining to the research process. If a student, like myself, aims to obtain a graduate degree and contribute to research after finishing his or her undergraduate degree, it would be beneficial to be introduced to the research process early. I plan on participating in research throughout my undergraduate career in order to attain my goal of Original Inquiry.

Academic Enrichment

Engaging in Academic Enrichment during the undergraduate years contributes to excellence pertaining to future goals. This Academic Enrichment allows students to push their limits and pursue greater achievements.  Students learn how to succeed in rigorous conditions and thrive under pressure. Taking courses in the Honors Program will aid in my strive towards Academic Enrichment. Also, having a challenging curriculum in my Biology major on a pre-med track will allow me to push myself to achieve the most I can.

Leadership Development

If students are able to develop leadership skills throughout their undergraduate careers, they will be able to display these skills in their future career.  I have been and will continue to acquire leadership skills through my volunteer work at Riverside Methodist Hospital. I will strengthen these skills at the hospital in many domains, including the training of new volunteers, assisting employees in their managerial tasks, and continuing to provide a service of excellence for patients and families.

Service Engagement

Service Engagement includes any type of service activity that benefits a group of people or is just generally for a good cause. The importance of service engagement is often to gain a better and more worldly understanding of society. To work towards my goals of participating in service engagement, I will continue to volunteer at Riverside Methodist hospital every week as well as participate in volunteer and extra service work through OSU.
