Obscure Misstory, a podcast

As a student in high school, one of my biggest academic achievements was a self written and directed podcast on historical women, particularly more obscure ones. This podcast was titled Obscure Misstory, and it involved months of research on my part, trying to dig deeper into lesser known historical women and the lives they led. My podcast featured Christina Vasa, the first female ‘king’ of Sweden, as well as the Vestal Virgins of Ancient Rome. These podcasts averaged about 15 minutes long, with the goal of keeping listeners engaged and interested in what was said about these various topics, and they were even published onto iTunes shortly after they were put on SoundCloud. Since the production and publication of these two episodes, an offshoot episode of Obscure Misstory was created, titled Obscure Mister-y, about the underrated life of famed political figure, Aaron Burr.

This artifact is important to me because it showed me that with hard work I can do the things that I set out to do– even if it means spending a lot of free time on it. My podcast showed me that hard work and passion for something can go a long way, and that if I can accomplish something big like this, there isn’t anything out of my limits.

After completing this podcast, I hope to be able to continue in this area of history, and I hope to be able to explore broadcasting or podcasting even more as an option for myself, both creatively and career-wise. This project gave me a lot in terms of connections and inspiration, and its positive impact on my academic career will never be forgotten.
