Design Thinking Workshop

Design thinking is a human-centered and empathy focused approach to design. Whether designing an educational program or a digital product, Extension professionals can use design thinking to develop innovative learning opportunities for all audiences. This innovative and immersive process of design encourages assessing the needs of your audience, validating or rejecting assumptions, and pivoting where necessary to ensure that your end product will be exactly what your audience wants. This hands-on workshop will dive deep into the five stages of design thinking – empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test – and offer participants tangible ways to engage this process in their own communities.

 

Accessibility Webinar

As a public institution, The Ohio State University and OSU Extension have a responsibility to create and disseminate content that is accessible to allaudiences. Creating accessible contents means reducing barriers to content consumption and comprehension. Examples include ensuring that screen readers can easily read written text aloud, assigning alternate text to graphics so they may be appropriately described, and including captions with video content. This webinar will cover the basics of creating accessible digital content and cover OSU’s legal obligations in offering content that is accessible to all audiences.

 

Digital Storytelling with Social Media Workshop

Social media is one of the best ways to reach large audiences. From managing public-facing Facebook pages or semi-private Facebook groups to hosting topic-specific Twitter chats, social media can offer your community members ways to engage with Extension outside of traditional learning opportunities. The best way to engage audiences on social media is through storytelling. Effective storytelling captures people’s attention while fostering an emotional or intellectual connection to the content. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to effective social media management and digital content creation while ensuring social media accounts are in-line with university branding standards and policy.

 

Assessing Impact and Engagement of Digital Learning Webinar

Evaluating impact is a priority of Extension programs. Assessing the impact of digital content and online learning opportunities is no less important than assessing the impact of traditional face-to-face programs, but it does require a bit more planning and preparation. Evaluation should be fully integrated into the development and design of online learning opportunities. This webinar will offer participants helpful information on incorporating evaluation into formal online learning through online courses and webinars and informal online learning through social media, videos, and e-newsletters.

 

Video Production Workshop

In the age of digital media, video is king. From instructional and informational videos to off-the-cuff live-streamed programs and interviews, people are innately attracted to video content. This hands-on workshop will cover all the basics of successful video production including storyboarding and scripting, filming and editing, and equipment.

 

Diversity and Inclusion Webinar

Is your digital content inclusive? What are OSU Extension’s legal and ethical obligations in producing inclusive content? Inclusivity is an ever-increasing topic of importance. This session will provide participants with an introduction to The Ohio State University’s non-discrimination policy and share best practices and guidelines for producing inclusive digital content. We’ll explore the digital gender divide as well as how to ensure all audiences feel safe and welcomed in our face-to-face and online learning opportunities.

 

Developing Branded Infographics with Piktochart Webinar

Infographics offer a great way to help audiences consume statistic-heavy information in a fun and engaging way. This webinar will intro participants to the basics of using a free online program, Piktochart, to design and publish branded interactive infographics that can be shared on social media, posted on websites, or printed.

 

Developing e-Newsletters with MailChimp Workshop

Electronic newsletters are one of the best ways to keep your audience apprised of local information, share marketing materials for upcoming programs, and ensure your stakeholders are always getting content directly to their inbox. MailChimp is an online e-newsletters platform that is free for up to 2,000 subscribers. The platform offers an intuitive way to design and send email campaigns while collecting vital analytics so you know exactly what content your audience finds most engaging. Participants will leave this workshop having developed their subscription list and a branded template ready to use to send their first e-newsletters.

 

Getting Started with Zoom Webinar

Zoom is a robust digital tool that offers HD quality video-conferencing with screen-sharing capability. From hosting small committee meetings to offering educational webinars, Zoom allows people to connect in from all corners of the state or nation. Additionally, Zoom allows you to record meetings and webinars so even those unable to join live can engage with your content. This webinar will offer best practices for using Zoom to host small video meetings and large educational webinars while showcasing built-in engagement tools like polling, whiteboard, and breakout rooms.

 

Creating Digital Evaluations with Qualtrics Workshop

Qualtrics is an intuitive online platform for creating online questionnaires and program evaluations. This session will offer a foundation for using OSU’s enterprise tool, Qualtrics, for collecting and analyzing evaluation data.

 

Podcasting Webinar

Podcasting is becoming an increasingly popular medium of entertainment and education for its ease of accessibility and affordability. In this session, participants will learn the basics of getting started with podcasting. From equipment to storyboarding ideas, everyone will leave with inspiration for starting their own Extension podcast.
