Year in Review

My second year at Ohio State was definitely filled with many challenges, all of which the pandemic did not make any better. However, I feel that this year made me grow as an individual and made me realize that I can overcome a lot of the obstacles I face when I really try to work around them. The first challenge that I faced was switching my major. While the process itself for me wasn’t too complicated, it was still stressful for me to try to figure out different variables in doing so. I spent days looking at how the switch could benefit me, what classes I already had fulfilled for the major, and overall contemplating my choice before making my final decision. In addition to this, my academic year was also a hard one. I was taking some very time-consuming courses that were outside of anything I have ever had to take before in terms of difficulty level. But I think these difficult classes and obstacles really strengthened my desire to want to go into healthcare, despite whatever has been thrown at me.

Moving forward, I wish to collect more experiences to better equip me for the PA profession. While the pandemic made the search for shadow opportunities almost impossible, restrictions being lifted now and the vaccine being given to more people has made me hopeful of finding a shadowing position this summer. I have also started a new position at a hospital as a nurse aide, and hope to become more involved with some the committees the hospital offers. I have high hopes that all these experiences will help prepare me for whatever I might face in the future when I enter healthcare, and also help me understand that not everyday is going to be the perfect day.

Service:

  • I am a volunteer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, volunteering every Monday for about 2 hours. My goal through Nationwide is to bring happiness to all the young patients who need it when they may not be feeling their best.
  • I am also an American Red Cross blood donor ambassador (volunteer). My goal is to help bring awareness to the importance of blood donations, especially during the pandemic and to become knowledge about the process.

This was a very exciting opportunity that I was able to be selected for! My duty at Nationwide is to arrive to the hospital one day a week, and try to get recruit patients to come to the activity group held on certain days. Seeing the patients enjoy their time at the activity group really makes me proud to be a volunteer at Nationwide making a difference!

About Me

Hey! My name is Cameron and I am from Pickerington, Ohio, which is just 30 minutes away from OSU. My intended major is biology (could change) and I plan to stay on the pre-PA track. Some activities I enjoy are running, hiking, cooking, hanging with friends, and being with family. Occasionally when I have free time i’ll catch up on some of my favorite Netflix shows and be obsessed with other peoples dogs. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of travel and have high hopes to study abroad so that is going to be a main thing on my to do list that I want to achieve over the next four years. My overall goal in life is to honestly just be satisfied with the amount of effort I put into things, even if the outcome may not always be desirable.
