First Year in Review

My first year of college was unexpected in all of the best ways. For starters, the career path I thought I had wanted throughout high school changed after the fall semester. My grades were not where I wanted them to be and my heart was not in it. I am now pursuing a degree in health sciences on an occupational therapy track. This is a career I am passionate about, one that my whole heart is in. Outside of classes, I found my home away from home, Cru. Cru is an Christian organization on campus that allows me to practice my faith within a loving and accepting community. Finally, through Health Sciences Scholars, I met wonderful friends. HSS gave us the unique opportunity to live in the same floor with fellow HSS members. We are all in similar majors and pursuing similar career paths. My friends have been essential in the success of my freshman year and I couldn’t be more thankful to HSS for bringing me to them.

First Year Service

During my first year at OSU, I had so many wonderful opportunities to serve in the city of Columbus. I participated in the campus wide days of service including Community Commitment in the fall and Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the spring. For Community Commitment, we cleaned up trash on the trails of a local park. On MLK day, we volunteered at COSI cleaning toys for children. Additionally, I continued to volunteer in my hometown at my church and other local organizations. My favorite volunteering experience was through the Heinzerling Foundation, a care facility for children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. Interacting and having fun with the people who call the Heinzerling their home was a truly meaningful experience that I will continue throughout my time in Columbus.

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
