Second Year Reflection

This past year was another successful undergraduate experience. I performed well academically, but most importantly my path for the rest of my undergraduate career became a lot clearer. The biggest accomplishment my second year was deciding my major. I had come into college declared as a psychology major, but knew it wasn’t the perfect fit, even though it was interesting to me. I had decided my post-undergraduate plans before my major, I realized I wanted to continue onto physical therapy school. Knowing that, I could major in many different things as long as I completed my physical therapy prerequisites. I decided medical anthropology was the perfect mix between science and the humanities and would aid in my goal to go be a physical therapist. I also made many new friends this year and formed deep connections with new people, something I did not do as well in my first year. I also became more clear in what I want to pursue for extracurriculars; I hope to join buckeyephil harmonic next fall, as well as the anthropology club, and the pre physical therapy club. This summer I hope to get my shadowing hours done for physical therapy school. I also plan to take a few general education requirements over the summer to catch up since I am behind on the 4 year graduating path.

Year in Review-1st Year

My freshman year was very successful. I learned a lot academically, as well as personally. Aside from the class applicable knowledge, I learned how to study and how to perform in college, different from high school. There is a lot less time in class in college and more time for independent learning- which I learned I prefer. I ended my freshman year with a good GPA, but felt lost in the direction I was going academically and career wise. I had lots of motivation, but no where to put it that felt productive. I used this time to explore a diverse schedule of general education requirements to try and find my passion.

Personally, this year aided in a lot of emotional growth. I had to learn how to be away from home and put myself out of my comfort zone. Balancing class work and extra curriculars was difficult. It seemed much more simple in high school, but the academics of college were much more demanding that I did not find the same time for clubs and activities. I struggled to reach out to new people and widen my zone of friends. However, I had an amazing experience traveling to Ecuador with amazing people over winter break through a first year experience class about travel. I also met people through Humanities Scholars, which helped me with my involvement and provided activities to meet new people. I attended my first OSU football game as well. I left freshman year with the goal to find my major and career path, and get more involved on campus. Overall, I felt I had a wonderful freshman year and felt at home at OSU.
