Skateboard

My skateboard is something that gives me something to do when I’m not studying. It’s hard not to be stressed out by grades and anxiety of not getting into a major, but skateboarding allows me to relax and decompress to get rid of some of that stress. It’s also fun to try new tricks and explore campus. It serves as a reminder that school is not everything.

Reading – Reading is very important to me and it has given me much insight into the nature of the human condition. I first started reading in high school, mainly for debate. From there, I learned how to read non-fiction books and began to gain interest in all sorts of books. I especially love comic books. Batman: The Killing Joke, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen are my favorite. I only brought a few books with me to college, but I find the library to be a very helpful resource. Some of my favorite authors are David Foster Wallace, Douglas Adams, and Christopher Priest. Reading not only allows me to stay engaged, and also helps me learn about new ideas and experiences.

About Me

My name is Rohin Dasari and I am a current freshman here enrolled in the Humanitarian Engineering program. In high school, I didn’t play any sports, but I did participate in policy debate. Policy debate taught me, not only, how to think on my feet, but also the more meta teachings of discourse itself. It taught me how to follow arguments and points. On top of that, I became engrossed in philosophical learning through books written by Baudrillard and Nietzsche. My general hobbies include running, biking, and taking photos. I especially enjoy combining my hobbies and going outside once and a while to take cool photos of nature. I find it interesting because it seems as if there is so much symmetry and natural geometric beauty that ends up getting forgotten because of the shallow and often menial standards of adult/student life. This is what drives me to pursue a degree and biomedical engineering and also become a surgeon in the future, because while there are 1000 page textbooks written on the human body and on anatomy and genetics, there are still so many questions left unanswered. For example, it is still widely unknown how anesthesia acts upon the body or (a big one) how to cure Alzheimer’s. The evolution of nature and all it has to offer has brought me to understanding human anatomy, biology, and genetics. At OSU I hope to get involved in undergraduate research and take advantage of the many opportunities that can help me reach my goal. According to the Gallup Strength Finders Survey, my top 5 themes are Futuristic, Competition, Context, Empathy, and Restorative. Futuristic implies that instinctively, I have an ability to create word pictures that can describe the future. I also gravitate towards projects and study subjects that shape the future. My second theme is Competition. The Competition theme means that I am driven by my talents and I traditionally practice using my knowledge. When my performance is compared to others, I aim to be the best.  My third theme is Context. This theme means that I periodically investigate some of the events, policies, or people whose actions contributed to worldwide wars. I attempt to understand how the past can effect the future and put events into context. The fourth theme is Empathy. Empathy means that I also enjoy helping other people understand concepts and I find pleasure in helping people. The fifth and last theme is Restorative. This theme means that I am adept at dealing with problems and finding solutions.
