G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: As a person who grew up in another country, I really appreciate having an experience of living in two very different places. In college, I hope to meet more people who come from different backgrounds. I also wish to study abroad to gain a new perspective on how education is approached in different countries.
  • Original Inquiry: As a Psychology major, I plan on getting heavily involved with research as it will help me understand how my knowledge from textbooks and classes can be applied to real life.
  • Academic Enrichment: I am double-majoring in Psychology and PPE. I also plan to apply for Honors program. I not only want to graduate with a good GPA, I want to get out of college, knowing what I learned has a value in the real world. I want to be able to apply my knowledge I gain in college into the real world and be a positive instrument of change in my society.
  • Leadership Development: I am a member of Ignite, Women Founders Club and Global Outreach. I not only want to be a part of these clubs, I also plan on being a part of the executive board next year.  To me, being a leader means bringing people together under one umbrella, guiding them and being a part of their journey.
  • Service Engagement: Service means a lot to me. Throughout high school, I was heavily involved in many service clubs as well. Providing for others is one of my top priorities. My goal is to get involved with many service opportunities throughout campus, but moreover, I also want to take part in programs abroad, especially developing countries like India. One of my goal is to work for an NGO in my motherland, India.

Artifacts

Today, I interviewed my PSL mentor, Evan Purdie. Evan is a sophomore at OSU and a member of the PSL scholars group. Through this insightful interview, I got to know my mentor on a personal level and learned a few things from him as well. I asked a broad set of questions regarding his personal life and his commentary on this year’s election. Below is the set of questions, and I have paraphrased his answers.

  1. What’s your major and what made you decide this major?
    • Evan is currently undecided; however, he is thinking of doing public affairs.
  2. What career are you pursuing?
    • He wants to attend Law school so most likely a lawyer or if that doesn’t work out, he would like to pursue a doctorate in higher education and get involved in higher education programs.
  3. Where are you from? Ohio or outside of Ohio?
    • Evan is from Cincinnati. He also mentioned that he had always wanted to go to OSU since sixth grade.
  4. Why did you join PSL?
    • Evan wanted to meet like-minded people who like to talk about political issues. He also liked the idea of having a smaller group of people that act as a family and PSL attracted him for this reason a lot.
  5. Are you involved in any clubs or research here at OSU?
    • Evan jokingly admitted that he is perhaps overtly involved. He is a member of a service fraternity and a pre-law fraternity. He is also in the judicial branch of the student government and also has a job on campus.
  6. Why did you decide to be a mentor for PSL students?
    • He loves guiding people that are new to an experience. He likes to share his experiences and help people shape their own, which is why PSL mentor position attracted him.
  7. What’s your general advice for PSL students?
    • He said that students should of course put academics as their top priority; however, he emphasized that students need to appreciate their time as a college student and have fun.
  8. What are your hobbies?
    • Evan is so busy that he usually doesn’t have much time to enjoy his hobbies; however, he loves to work out. He also is a big football fan and sports in general.
  9. Since you’re politically involved, hence PSL, what are your thoughts on this election and who do you think has a better chance to win?
    • He admitted that deep down Trump might win, but he wants Joe Biden to win. He believes that one of the reasons if Trump wins is because people won’t go out and vote.
  10. Do you think this political polarization has increased significantly when Trump became President?
    • Evan was quick to answer yes. He said that people would be ignorant if they didn’t believe the climate has become hyper-polarized. He said that before people weren’t afraid to speak their mind; however, now people are afraid to do so because the fear getting judged.
  11. Do you believe that this polarization will increase further if Trump gets elected again?
    • He believes that if Trump gets elected again, it will further divide the people; however, he has hope that people will find a way to work together.

I enjoyed getting to know Evan a lot. I hope you enjoyed reading a little about Evan as well!

About Me

Hello to anyone reading this, welcome to my site. I am Anushka Das, an undergraduate freshman at THE Ohio State University. I am currently majoring in Psychology and PPE (Philosophy, Political Science and Economics), and I am also a member of the Politics, Society and Law scholars program. I plan on attending Law School and pursuing international law.

I am originally from Delhi, India and I moved to Dublin, Ohio in seventh grade. Moving here was a drastic change for me as I had to adapt to a new culture and language. However, moving to the U.S. also gave me an opportunity to pursue my dreams of attending a college in the United States. My unique background of coming from another country has definitely helped shape me into who I am today.

Out of the many things I enjoy doing, like wasting time watching Tik Tok, I am also an avid reader. I am currently involved in the Psychology book club, and we are reading The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. I am also reading Biased by Jennifer Eberhardt for one of my classes. And for a personal fun read, I am currently reading The Righteous Mind. If you can’t tell already, I love reading.

Besides reading, I spend my time hanging out with friends, exploring new food in the city, and procrastinating on my homework. I am excited to see what the next four years at OSU hold for me. I hope to get involved with extracurriculars, find my community, meet new people and explore my interests further.
