2020 Project Presentation Information

As we previously shared, the in-person 2020 Project Presentation Day for non-livestock projects has been cancelled.  Instead, projects will be evaluated virtually.  Members will submit a video for each project they would like to have evaluated.  Outstanding projects will receive County Rosettes, which will be available for pick-up during the fair.

To learn more about how the process will work, visit https://darke.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/2020-project-presentation-and-evaluation

Flipgrid codes and passwords will be made available on July 6.  In the meantime, youth can begin planning their video(s).  Include the following:

  • Tell us your name, 4-H Club, and age (as of 1/1/20)
  • Answer the prompts below:
  • The project activities I completed include……(show us in your project book)
  • I learned about………
  • My favorite part of the project was….
  • I will use the skills I learned……I enjoyed (or didn’t) the project because……
  • Give examples of things you learned
  • Explain your project display

We are looking for you to demonstrate knowledge of your project—but be creative!

2020 Ohio 4-H Project Completion Requirements

Not sure what you need to do to complete your 4-H project in 2020?  Check out the Ohio 4-H Project Completion Requirements. Please note that display requirements are not listed as we are waiting for the fairboard’s decision regarding the 2020 Great Darke County Fair.  As soon as that information is available, we will share.

Quality Assurance Reminder

Due to the stay-at-home order from Governor DeWine, as well as the no contact policy implemented by The Ohio State University, we are conducting Quality Assurance online via Zoom.  All youth who exhibit market animals, lactating dairy, or lactating goats are required by Ohio law to complete QA prior to exhibition.

Four Quality Assurance sessions remain.  Each session is limited to 20 families.  Sign up is first-come first-served.  Connection information will be sent 24 hours prior to the session, using the email provided in the registration process.  To register, visit go.osu.edu/qadarkecounty

  • Monday, May 18 – 11:00am and 3:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 20 – 11:00am and 7:00pm

4-H Project Books Available for Purchase Online

Good news!  You now have the opportunity to purchase your 4-H project books directly from OSU.  Following are options for downloading one of the free project books or ordering online.

Download one for free. A special collection of project books is available for free on the Perfect Stay-at-Home Projects web page. Click on the book you want, and when the file opens on your screen, save or print it from there. (For accessible formats of these publications, visit cfaes.osu.edu/accessibility.)

Buy one online. If you would like to buy a print copy of a Perfect Stay-at-Home project or any other project book, you can order directly from extensionpubs.osu.edu with one of these special discounts for Ohio residents: FREE2020 (for free shipping) OR 20IN2020 (20% off the entire order). Use the coupon that works best for you. Orders can be shipped directly to your home as long as it is an Ohio address. Please review your order carefully. No returns are accepted. There is no restriction on the number of times a coupon can be used.

Make your own. If you would rather not purchase a book in this way, self-determined projects are an excellent choice for self-motivated members eager to get started by creating their own projects. Although self-determined projects may be better suited for older 4-H members, they are available for any member and are often based on idea starters already available online. Many of the idea starters are great stay-at-home projects too, for example, Music, Bats, String Art, Climate Change, American Sign Language, etc. Our extraordinary educators are even preparing one called My Stay-at-Home Summer! (For project judging, self-determined projects are judged in self-determined categories.)

If your club has already collected the money for your project book(s), check with your advisor before ordering.  They may already have your book.  Or, check with them about the possibility of the club issuing a refund to you, if you have already paid the club for your books.
