Goal:
The goal of Performance Test 2 was to navigate to the lava lever and toggle it such that the lever remains in the toggled position after the robot has lost contact with the lava lever and its housing. Extra points were awarded for navigating to the light, reading it, and displaying its color. Five attempts were allowed for the performance test.
Scoring:
Get completely to upper level – 5 points
Touch lava lever – 5 points
Toggle lava lever – 5 points
Maintain toggled position after contact is broken – 5 points
Bonus – display light color
Results:
The robot failed all five attempts of the performance test because of its inability to turn toggle the lever. The robot was inconsistent when it lined up with the lever, therefore missing the lever most of the time. The best score that the robot achieved was a 10 out of 20. In this run the robot was able to navigate to the lever, hit the lever, but not toggle it. The robot was not able to navigate to the light in any of the runs due to its inconsistency with the lever. Analysis:
One improvements were made to the robot after this performance test. One of the improvements was the attachment of an appendage that extended out sideways from the forklift. This appendage was a simple handle of a spoon. It would be able to toggle the lever by swinging around the lever and then the robot would reverse, causing the appendage to pull the lever down.
