Spason: The Photo Frontier

I didn’t know what to expect going into this project. Mason and I had never met before and we knew absolutely nothing about each other. He could’ve been a serial killer for all I knew! Ok that’s a bit extreme, I don’t think Ohio State would allow a serial killer into the school nor do I think Mason is actually a serial killer. But what I really didn’t expect was how much we would learn about one another. It turns out we have very similar interests when it comes to music and we’ve both done quite a bit of traveling. I learned that Mason has lived in a variety of places due to military reasons, including Japan and Hawaii. Because of the large amount of moving, he seems to be floating from place to place, which made me think of floating around in outer space (which accounts for the space theme).

Mason has a very “chill” persona but is in fact incredibly energetic and a bit quirky. He’s a cool guy with a hint a nerd, which makes for very entertaining conversations that shift from football to star trek to setting people on fire…(maybe he is a serial killer after all). We decided to take all of our photos at night because we wanted to experiment with different lighting. For some photos we ran or moved around as the shutter went off to create a blurry effect. For others we took simple candids to capture each other in our natural elements. Overall it was a highly entertaining project and I really enjoyed getting to know Mason as a person and a new friend.
