Hello! My name is Grace Dakwar and I am pursuing a double major in Violin Performance and Psychology. I am from Mentor, Ohio which is just East of Cleveland. Of course, I am an Indians and Cavs fan. However, I am also a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan because of my dad’s influence on me when I was little. Growing up, I played many different sports, but I pursued softball and basketball in high school. I was a pitcher in softball, and it is by far my favorite sport. While I loved playing sports in high school, my true passion was playing violin. I was very involved in my school’s orchestra and had the amazing privilege to be concertmaster during my senior year. Being a part of Mentor High’s orchestra is what inspired me to pursue a career in music. I had opportunities to be a mentor to younger violin students and give violin lessons, and I had wonderful opportunities to perform solos.
My goal and hope in high school was to make a difference in other peoples’ lives, to let others know they are important and valued. When deciding which scholars group to apply for, I read the Mount Scholar’s description and knew it would be perfect for me with what I hope to accomplish in college such as grow as a leader, serve others, and value those different from myself. I hope to go to graduate school
to pursue my PhD in psychology and become a clinical psychologist like my mom as I feel a calling to help others. I have always looked up to my mom for her wisdom and abounding kindness. I hope to be just as great of a psychologist as she.`
I am very happy to join my older brother as a Buckeye here at The Ohio State University. He is always looking out for me and was a big help in the transition process. My brother also helped me get connected with Cru and H2O church. I hope to join their worship team playing violin. I truly miss playing for my church’s worship team at home along side my dad, who plays electric guitar. It was a wonderful opportunity to play with my dad and help lead my church in worshipping God. I hope I can have this opportunity again with my fellow Buckeyes. I am a Christian, and I hope to live a life spreading God’s love to those I encounter.
