The second meeting I attended was Ohio State Alumni Spotlight: Tristan Mooney from NASA, which took place on March 16th, I however watched the recording. I was really impressed by Tristan’s credentials, and he is now working as an engineer for NASA. I thought that it was really interesting hearing about to diverse array of things he’s been involved in. I was very surprised that Tristan sees wildlife regularly while working at the NASA Stennis facility. He talked about NASA’s future plan including the Artemis program, which plans on exploring the moon and subsequently going to Mars. The video he showed for the Artemis project was really cool, watching it even gave me chills. We will see the first woman and next man set foot on the moon by 2024. The Stennis space center has a record of excellence as no crewed space mission has ever failed due to the failure or malfunction of a rocket engine or stage. Something new I learned is that rockets face extreme temperatures both hot and cold, and the rocket must be engineered to deal with these temperatures. I thought this meeting was informative especially since I am interested in working for NASA, just not as an engineer. Tristan was obviously really knowledgeable and did a good job presenting his information.
