End-of-Year Reflection
This year at The Ohio State University is definitely one for the books. This year being my first year at OSU, I experienced a lot of new things. From move-in to finals today, I have learned more than I expected. I met a lot of the personal and academic goals I set for myself coming into college. I took courses that benefitted me and expanded my knowledge, and even received the grades I wanted in them. I joined different clubs and organizations that allowed me to meet new people and learn new information about architecture, the professional world, and much more. I have learned more about how I adapt to new situations and how I can grow from them. For instance, in my studio course I had a mid an final review. I had never done a review before, so it was a learning curve. But with help from my peer and professors, I was able to communicate my ideas clearly to jurors.
I have also learned some things from this year that I can carry into this summer and next semester. I plan to use my newfound organization skills with classes next semester, as I found our how to use my iPad to my advantage. In addition, I plan to keep in touch with my friends and organizations that I joined. By doing this, I can have an easier transition into next semester. In conclusion, the past year has taught me a lot about myself and college in which I can take those lessons and apply them in the future.

Journal #3
I do plan to continue with the Scholars program thus the spring project. I currently have my own earrings business, but I have taken a break from it recently because of academics. However with this opportunity of the spring project, I plan to get back into building this venture of mine. Addressing the Honors and Scholars G.O.A.L.S., this project seems to fit well with them. With my earring business, Earrings by Mahima, I already began to donate to causes that seemed purposeful and becoming a partial social enterprise. Along with this, I gain valuable marketing and financial skills.
I plan to restart this personal project during winter break, when I have more time to dedicate to it and start it back up. I already have a plan for winter break as to how much time I plan on putting into it and with next semester as well. My first step is to utilize my social media page more to attract more business and organize the customers that I already have. The next step is figuring out the best schedule that works with my academics and the business, as that was my challenge coming into this semester. I plan to meet these first steps early on in the spring semester, maybe one month into the semester will these two be completed.
Columbus To Do List Pt. 2
The last three locations I went to helped me understand the different art scenes on Columbus even more. First in this last set of three that I went to is the Columbus Museum of Art. I have been here multiple times in the past, but by this time there were new galleries. For instance, there is the Rodin gallery showcasing his sculptures and descriptions of their meanings. Even though a good amount of the paintings were the same from when I last saw them (assuming they are part of a permanent collection), it was nice to see them again because I was able to pick out something different I had not seen the last time. This also allowed me to revisit some of my favorite artists and the fact that they had a piece there, an example being Kehinde Wiley. The second place that I visited is a space called Gravity. Gravity is a new housing and retail development in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus. Gravity is home to a wall of murals done by local artists in Columbus and one large scale mural done by world famous artist, Eduardo Kobra. This especially interested me as this is an artist that I have followed for quite some time. Another aspect that I liked at this location was one of the retail spaces. The Roosevelt Coffeehouse has their third location here and they have a mural showcasing their coffee shop that was petty cool to see. The last of these experiences was a semi-hidden spot on Ohio State’s campus. Thompson library is home to its own gallery with a variety of a items. Currently, it hosts a collection showing old and modern photos. On top of that, there is an old People’s magazine which was interesting to see and compare to modern day similarities or differences.
My favorite location from this project is probably Gravity. Gravity is almost unexpected and hidden, so when one sees all of the murals it can be surprising. Almost tied with Gravity is the Pizzuti Collection. This small scale gallery is situated in the Short North accordingly, however its entrance is situated on the street behind High St. making it more private. It also faces Goodale Park which allows for a break in the busy city streets. I really enjoyed this whole experience as it allowed me to expand on the previous knowledge that I already have of Columbus’s art scene. After this experience, I want to learn more about the art in Columbus and see its impact, especially because there is art everywhere. Every neighborhood seemed to have its own piece. I would recommend any of these locations to someone else looking at the same list. With the Mona Lisa mural, I would recommend for an individual to also look at other famous murals in Columbus, especially in the Short North. Overall, this experience helped me look at different parts of Columbus in new ways. I plan to take this knowledge and explore similar aspects of Columbus and potentially compare them to see how similar or different they are.

Columbus To Do List Pt. 1
For the Columbus To Do project, I chose to do the Art & Music category as it is an interest of mine since high school. I was a member in an art club at my high school where we would travel to galleries and learn about art in the local Columbus area, so I wanted to build my knowledge of that through this project as well. As part of this club we visited galleries, but since galleries cycle out art, I am most looking forward to going to the galleries I have been to that have new pieces now.
The first location I went to that belonged to this category is the Pizzuti Collection, located in the Short North behind High St. This collection is a sub-gallery of the Columbus Museum of Art. One of my favorite things that this space had when I visited was the collection brought in. The woman at the front desk explained that the pieces were a part of the “greatest hits” collection — bringing together the pieces the Pizzuti’s enjoyed the most that have been there in previous years. Something I do wonder about is why the outdoor sculpture garden never seems to change (as I have seen it in the past year). I would definitely recommend this to friends as it is also free to students!
The next place I visited is also in the Short North situated behind High St., but towards Italian Village. This is the location of the Mona Lisa mural. It is a very iconic part of Columbus and makes me wonder about why its location is not totally visible from High St. when it draws so much importance. I did learn that it carries a representation by its location in Italian Village as reference to the original painting. I would recommend this location to someone if they were to do something in the Short North district (other than to see the mural), like the gallery hop.
Journal #2
I met up with my mentor, Aiden Finelli, at KSA Café on September 26. This location was very convenient for both of us, as we are both always at Knowlton whether it’s for class or to study. We had an informal “interview” for about half an hour as both of us had a lot to accomplish this week! I was able to ask Aiden more about the Scholars program going forth for the next few years and learned about the opportunity to become a mentor as well. Aiden also informed me more about the Landscape Architecture major and minor programs as I had an interest in both of them — he gave me recommendations for the future. Another topic that we talked about was the fraternity that Aiden is in. It’s called Alpha Rho Chi (APX), a professional fraternity that is recently starting back up at Ohio State. I saw the organization at the Knowlton Fair and wanted to learn more, so Aiden was able to elaborate more about what all they are currently doing and future goals for APX as well. I plan to keep in good contact with both of my mentors as they have good advice for me as an OSU and Knowlton student.

My first impression of Ohio State and the Scholars program here was higher than expected. From move-in day to today — the first football game — the energy here is incomparable to any other school I’ve seen.
Welcome week started the beginning of these adventures and paved a path for a great future at The Ohio State University. From the Honors & Scholars Launch to Convocation to Buck-I-Frenzy, there was a sense of home carried throughout all of these events.
Once classes began, I got a grasp onto what it’s like to be a true student at OSU. Classes so far haven’t been anything over-the-top difficult, but it’s definitely necessary to put in the effort. Most of this is what I was already expecting when I was a prospective student for OSU, which is why I feel that it wasn’t that difficult for me to transition from one place to another.
Lastly, the Architecture, Landscape and City Scholars program is a great program to be a part of. I’ve made good friends through this scholars from both people on my floor to my scholars mentors. I’m very glad I joined this program and can’t wait to see where it can take me in the future.
