Ranomafana Ruffed Lemur Project Fieldwork Opportunity

The Ranomafana Ruffed Lemur Project (RRLP) is a long-term research project investigating the health, fitness and conservation of the Critically Endangered
black-and-white ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata). This research entails an annual three-week field season in August during which time we capture lemurs, replace radiocollars, conduct biomedical health assessments, and collect biological samples.

Duties include assisting with examination and monitoring of anesthetized lemurs. Subjects are captured by darting in the forest and transported to camp for exam. Each subject receives a complete physical exam, and sample and measurements are collected. Lemurs are monitored until recovered, then released. Basic lab work is completed, and samples are prepared for storage and transport.

Qualifications: The candidate will be responsible for providing all personal gear (including hiking and camping supplies), meeting health requirements including vaccinations, and air fare to Madagascar (between $3500 – $5000). All in country expenses (food, lodging, transportation, permits) will be paid by the project. There is no stipend.

Application process: Please send an email with why you are interested in this program and your relevant experience and skills attached in a resume or CV to cvm-globalengagement@osu.edu by March 4th, 2024.
