2023 OSU IDI Trainee Travel Funds

The Ecology, Epidemiology and Population (EEPH) has some funds remaining that need to be used by this fiscal year (June 30, 2023).  If you are a member of IDI EEPH thematic program, there is an opportunity to get support to attend  conferences in your area of interest and present your work.

Purpose

To enable trainees in the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Ecology, Epidemiology and Population (EEPH) thematic program to attend conferences in their areas of interest and present their work.  Awards are intended to enhance the trainee experience and further the work of IDI member labs and the institute by providing greater exposure for the work presented and for the efforts of the EEPH thematic area.  

Eligibility

  • Registered graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in a degree program at The Ohio State University or postdoctoral researcher at The Ohio State University or Nationwide Children’s Hospital
  • Member of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Ecology, Epidemiology and Population Health thematic area (Join here.)
  • Attending a conference, workshop, or training activity related to your academic or professional development
  • Travel award must be used for future travel

Details and Requirements

  • Travel Awards of up to $800 each will be awarded to defer the cost of travel (transportation, lodging, registration, etc.)
  • Applications are now being accepted and will be reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Applications should be submitted at least four weeks prior to travel departure date
  • Applications should be in the form of a single pdf file sent to the IDI inbox (IDI@osu.edu) with the subject line, “EEPH Trainee Travel Award” consisting of a request letter along with the trainee’s abstract describing the work to be presented at the conference
  • The request letter must include:
    • Name, email address, college/department, and mentor
    • Title of meeting
    • Dates and location of the meeting
    • Estimated travel costs to be incurred
    • Description of connection between the work being presented and the EEPH thematic area
  • Award funds will be transferred to the trainee’s home unit to assist in covering travel costs
  • An award letter will be sent to the recipient for signature prior to funds being transferred
    • All university and college/department/unit travel policies and procedures apply
    • Work with your college/department/unit fiscal/travel professional to plan travel
  • Awardees should acknowledge receipt of this travel award in their poster, presentation, or summary of the experience as follows: “Travel to this conference was partially supported by funds provided by The Ohio State University, Infectious Diseases Institute, Ecology, Epidemiology and Population Health thematic program area.”
  • Recipients will be required to present a 5-10 minute talk summarizing their work at a special thematic area meeting to be held to highlight the research of the trainees receiving awards
