Matchu-Chindul Reserve, Ecuador 2022
We are excited to share below Mr. Nour Mays’s international experience, funded by Dr. Thomas Mack.
Describe your experience:
My experience was incredible to say the least. For my thesis, we stayed near the Matchu-Chindul Reserve in Ecuador for 7 weeks. There we tested the mean predictive number of E. coli in people’s primary drinking water as well as identified the presence/absence of antimicrobial resistance.
How did this experience allow you to promote global health?
This experience allowed me to promote global health through multiple facets. Water insecurity is a major global issue, and here we were able to give actual results to people facing this problem. Antimicrobial resistance is also a global One Health issue and is something of major concern in animals and humans alike. During my project we were able to identify different sources of water that held antimicrobial resistance E.coli.
