About Me

My name is Julia Cuva and I am a first year Business Scholar at Ohio State. I am majoring in data analytics with a specialization in business. Majoring in this new and upcoming area is very exciting for me, and I cannot wait to see where it brings me. Being in the business scholars program will help shape my future as I expand interpersonal skills, make connections in the business community, and volunteer.

I graduated from Mentor High School (30 miles east of Cleveland) in three years, with honors at the top of my class. I value my education very much and believe it is vital to ensure my success in the future. I am a middle child, with an older brother at OSU and a younger sister in middle school. I am a first generation college student, and am thrilled to be at Ohio State.

Being a buckeye brings much excitement. I am looking forward to expanding my horizons, stepping out of my comfort zone, and meeting new people. I cannot wait to take advantage of the endless opportunities that Ohio State offers.

Year in Review

My second year at Ohio State has been full of experiences that have helped to shape my college experience and who I am as a person. The first semester of my sophomore year I was able to get an internship offer from Chemical Abstract Services as a business technology intern. I am so excited to start the internship and see all that it has to offer. With the help of my STEP funding, I will be able to stay in Columbus to complete the internship, meeting new people and learning new coding and data visualization tools. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I am excited to get a taste of it over the summer.

I was really able to start diving into my major, as I was accepted to it at the beginning of my second semester. I have been able to take strictly major classes, where I am seeing everything come together. Not only am I getting deeper into my major, but I have met a lot of my close friends through these classes. Being in such a small major, most of the major classes are typically only taught a few different times, so you are likely to have them with many of the same people. This has allowed me to find a very close group of friends who not only navigate through school together, but will be with me throughout the rest of my college journey.

This year has been very academically challenging. This has helped me a lot though, as it has taught me how to become a better student. The rigorous nature of the classes I have been taking has taught me to become a better studier, to seek help from my peers when I am struggling, how to better work with my peers, and expanded my public speaking skills. Although it has been very challenging and stressful, it has helped me to improve as a student.

I have also been able to do a lot of things outside of campus this year. I was able to take a weekend trips to West Virginia, Chicago, and Boston. These were all places I had never been before, so being able to get off campus for a little bit and explore new places was a really cool experience. Two of my favorite on campus experiences this year were my second BuckeyeThon and my first Michigan game. These are both two events that gave me memories that I will carry with me forever.

I have had a great two years at Ohio State already and I am excited to see what the future holds as my last two years as a Buckeye!

Artifacts

Ohio State football games have been one of my favorite things here at OSU. I had experienced games with my family as a kid, but being able to as a student is much more fun. Not only did I get to experience games with my brother this year since he is also a student, but I was able to share these games with my new BSP friends. The best game of the year was surely standing in very cold weather to watch OSU beat Penn State- and then rushing the field and being right next to players. These games have given me some great memories, and I cannot wait for many more through the rest of my years here at OSU.
