G.O.A.L.S

Global Awareness:  As a student at The Ohio State University, it is quite easy become aware of events and cultures outside of the United States because of the profound diversity.  There are so many different ways to experience other places, ideas, and nations on campus.  I plan to get involved in a number of these activities in order to broaden my knowledge.  There are study abroad opportunities as well as class on campus that are taught only for the purpose of global awareness.  Getting involved in classes and programs like these is how I plan to strengthen my global awareness during my time as a student.

Original Inquiry:  The most enticing way to inquire at the university is to get involved with research.  Though I don’t plan on conducting research of my own, I do plan on reading research reports that pertain to my both of my majors.  I also plan to take a few challenging courses that will allow me to think more independently and in turn cause me to explore ideas I had not yet already explored.  By getting involved in academic reading and taking challenging courses, I will be able to accomplish the goal of original inquiry.

Academic Enrichment:  The best way to enrich your academic experience while at Ohio State is to take challenging courses.  However it sometimes goes beyond that.  Academic enrichment can be fulfilled in a number of ways including participating in study groups, becoming a TA, reading scholarly novels, etc.  All of these activities, combined with taking challenging courses, will allow me to achieve the goal of academic enrichment.  So far, I have taken a number of challenging courses from various honors courses to higher level courses for my major.  These courses have challenged me greatly and I plan on continuing to pursue high level courses.

Leadership Development:  Becoming a leader takes a lot of time a work.  However, if you engage in the right activities, becoming a leader can be exciting and entertaining rather than hard work.  Activities such as being the captain of an intramural sports team or leading a research group are ones in which I plan to partake in while a student.  By participating in these activities, I will be able to gain great social skills as well as develop into a leader.  So far I have participated in several intramural sports, all of which were with a team.  This has allowed me to improve my leadership and communication skills.  I plan to continue these activities for the rest of my undergraduate career.

Service Engagement:  Volunteering and giving back to the community are great ways to achieve the goal of service engagement.  By getting involved in volunteer organizations around campus and helping the community become a better place, my service will absolutely increase.  I plan to join at least 1 volunteer organization on campus during my time as a student and participate in many other independent service opportunities as well.
