Our Team

Steve David, Advocacy Director (he/him)

Steve David is the first advocacy director at the Ohio State University College of Social Work. His work focuses on creating opportunities for students, social work practitioners and community partners to engage in advocacy and policy practice.

Steve has developed trainings on activism and advocacy practice, and conducted workshops to equip social workers with skills to discuss voter engagement with clients in their existing practice settings. He also coordinates the college’s annual DC advocacy trip, which takes students to Washington DC to elevate social work issues on the federal level.

He and his wife are both licensed social workers and live in south Columbus with their two children.

Areej Khalid (she/her)

Areej Khalid is a fourth-year social work and history double major focusing on the relationship between power, culture, and society. Believing in the dignity and worth of every person, she is interested in engaging with communities to increase political awareness and activism among the people. She participated in the college’s DC advocacy trip in 2023 and had the opportunity to ask members of Congress to reintroduce H.R.8494, the Trauma-Informed Schools Act of 2022, to the House of Representatives

Max Stokey (they/he)

Max Stokey is a fourth year BSSW Student at the Ohio State University College of Social Work. They are currently in their field placement working under Steve Daivd at the Office of Community Engagement at the College of Social Work. Max plans to focus on advocating for the LGBTQ+ community and work to expand opportunities for students to become more involved in advocacy related work on campus. They also want to focus on voter outreach and community organizing while they are on placement.
