Steve David, Advocacy Director (he/him)
Steve David is the first advocacy director at the Ohio State University College of Social Work. His work focuses on creating opportunities for students, social work practitioners and community partners to engage in advocacy and policy practice.
Steve has developed trainings on activism and advocacy practice, and conducted workshops to equip social workers with skills to discuss voter engagement with clients in their existing practice settings. He also coordinates the college’s annual DC advocacy trip, which takes students to Washington DC to elevate social work issues on the federal level.
He and his wife are both licensed social workers and live in south Columbus with their two children.

Claudia Banke, CSW Advocacy Intern, (she/her)
Claudia Banke is a fourth-year student at Ohio State, double majoring in Social Work and Political Science. She is currently completing her field placement with the College of Social Work Advocacy office.
Claudia is interested in education policy and research. She is working on an Honors research thesis, where she is exploring how inclusive curriculum impacts LGBTQ+ high school students’ mental health and academic outcomes.
In her free time, she loves to read and hike.
Madyson Newsome, CSW Advocacy Intern, (she/her)
Madyson is a Master of Social Work student at the Ohio State Ohio State University and currently interning at the CSW Advocacy Office. Her work focuses on community engagement and social justice and is passionate about resource justice, class solidarity, decolonization, and anti-oppressive practice. She has a background in social work higher education from her undergraduate practicum and current employment role in the CSW Office of Field Education. She has three cats, enjoys yoga and is a self-proclaimed foodie.
