‘S’
The ‘S’ in G.O.A.L.S. stands for service engagement. I believe that service work is vital for a thriving community. I have volunteered for public services ranging from teaching CPR to high school seniors to helping coach a mini cheerleading team. Most recently, I have volunteered at Star House – a shelter that provides shelter and other necessitates to underprivileged teens in the Columbus area. I am also planning to study abroad this summer to help third world communities learn English and provide aide in any other ways I can.
‘A’
The ‘A’ in G.O.A.L.S. stands for academic enrichment. One of the greatest aspects of the Ohio State University is its seemingly infinite resources. Just in my short time here, I have utilized resources such as tutoring, the Learning Research Center and career counseling at Younkin Success Center. My decision to take advantage of these many resources has greatly enriched my academic year. From meeting with a tutor for a specific class to attending career counseling, I have chosen to stay focused on my academics to ensure not only a successful first year, but a successful undergraduate career.

Scholars Events
I volunteered at a shelter that aides less fortunate teenagers called Star House. At star house, I helped sort donations and restock common areas with toiletries and clothing available to guests. Through this experience, I have found a love for giving back. Helping the community is just one small way I can show my gratitude for the blessed life that I live.
Achieving Personal Goals
It was always a dream of mine to go to Disney World, so when I heard of an opportunity to win a trip, I was determined to do whatever it took. My high school cheerleading team, along with majority of high school cheer teams across the nation, annually attends a week-long cheerleading camp in the summer hosted by the United Cheer Association (UCA). Each year, UCA holds All-American tryouts to form a squad of elite cheerleaders to preform in prestigious venues. When I heard that the All-American cheerleaders would be preforming at Walt Disney World, I was determined to ace that tryout. All week at camp, I gave 110% effort, was a leader for my team and spent my spare time practicing, conditioning or stretching – and it all paid off I the end. My efforts were recognized by a staffer who nominated me to try out and, thanks to all my hard work, my try out could not have gone better. I was named an All-American Cheerleader and went on to preform in Walt Disney World. That little UCA metal hung around my neck was a symbol of how my hard work could pay off in extraordinary ways.

About Me
My name is Haylee Cross and I’m from a small suburb of Columbus called Pataskala, OH. I graduated from Watkins Memorial high school in 2018. During my high school years, I was involved in organizations such as athletic teams, student council, NHS, Project M.O.R.E., German club and Drug Free club. In addition to school organizations, I also volunteered my time as captain of the Watkins Memorial varsity cheerleading team to coach a local mini cheerleading team and also spent three years of my high school career employed at a local dog kennel as a shift leader. My goals at The Ohio State University include graduating as a biological sciences scholar and earning my Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences. I plan to continue my academic career to graduate school in order to receive my Pharm.D. on a focused drug discovery and research pathway.
