Week 12: CRT and Higher Education

Based on the recent events that occurred on the University of Missouri campus, many university students around the country have been making list of demands and providing them to university administration. This article talks about some of the requests Mizzou students and many others are demanding. The second article shares how student demands are currently being reviewed and resemble some of the same demands students and others had in 1969. The second article also includes a video sharing concerns from students of color on the Mizzou campus.

Read both articles and watch the short video on the HuffPost College link. What are your thoughts on the demands that have been made by Mizzou students? Do you feel these demands are necessary? Explain your answer. Thinking about your institution and the racial climate on campus, what kind of demands would you like to see made and why. If you don’t see a need for that to occur, explain what you believe the university is currently doing to address the needs of students of color and their safety on the campus. How would CRT play a role in what is currently going on in Mizzou and other universities?
