Year in Review
This past year has been amazing for me to grow beyond what I thought my possibilities were. I got accepted into Honors Contract (getting ready to prepare my proposal to look at the stigma of financial help seeking behavior on undergrad students), I finished my experience with Business Scholars, and I’ve grown my social connections to have more people than I’ve ever had in my life.
One of the biggest accomplishments I’ve done for myself this past year is gain an amazing internship. I am doing research on insurance technology (InsurTech) startups and getting to see lots of entrepreneurial talent in thinking of unique ways to leverage technology in insurance applications. When I first started getting rejection letter after rejection letter I didn’t think I would get any opportunities. I saw other students getting the internships I practiced hard for and it made me feel down at times. But instead of sitting on these feelings of pity and depression, I turned them into passion and drive to keep working at my goal of getting an internship. Leveraging my connections, including the Office of Career Management at Fisher, advice from peer counselors, and guidance from my academic advisors, I kept refining my skills. I knew that the hard work would eventually pay off and in late-October my goal of getting an internship was reached. It made me feel so happy that I finally got an internship after getting rejection after rejection. I could’ve quit and kept on with my academics but I pushed myself.
Six months later and I am going to be working for my internship into the summer. They even said I could stay there until I graduate in Spring 2019. It makes me excited to think they are impressed with my work and may want to hire me as a full time employee if I do an excellent job. Pushing through my second year at OSU, I’ve gained a new appreciation for life. The struggles and challenges that I face now will pay off in the long run. For now, I will use summer to reflect on my experiences this past year and think about how I will prepare for my final year at OSU and what opportunities lie ahead.
