This course introduces qualitative inquiry in public health research and practice. Students will be introduced to qualitative methods including participant observation, interview, focus groups and PhotoVoice. Data collection, instrument development, data collection strategies, data preparation/cleaning and data analysis will be covered. Attention will be paid to identifying appropriate methods to specific research questions. Students will learn Dedoose, a web-based qualitative data analysis software program, and be guided through qualitative data analysis steps toward identifying findings and considering public health implications of findings.
