Accreditation Status

The Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program at the Ohio State University in the College of

Education and Human Ecology is not currently accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). However, the program is pursuing accreditation through APA Commission on Accreditation (APA-CoA), the primary programmatic accreditor in the US for professional education and training in psychology. Here are the steps for accreditation:

  1. Letter of Intent (LOI): Submit LOI, indicating intention to pursue accreditation. If the LOI is approved, then the program proceeds to the next step.
  2. Accredited, on Contingency (AOC): Submit a self-study of the program based on COA’s guidelines, including collected practicum data and any available  profession-wide competency or discipline-specific knowledge data on students’ progress in the program. Proposed alumni surveys must be provided.
  3. Full Accreditation (FA): Submit a self-study, including data from current (proximal data) students and the alumni (distal data), seek approval for site visit through review, complete site visit and final review for full accreditation.Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation
